Ok, this is the 2nd icky day at work in a row (with a weekend between thank goodness or heaven only knows how I would've done) and I want pizza for dinner. I am tired, I'm hungry and the food I planned for tonight is involved and I am having a meltdown. The problem isn't so much the one meal of pizza but more the issue of the remaining 3/4 of a pizza I'll have left. Anyway, I'm here mostly to vent and stomp my feet. I'm also hoping inspiration will come to me as I type..and it is...slowly. I'm going to go home and make myself a sandwich with the lowfat deli ham I have on whole wheat. I think I have some Sunchips which will deal with the salty craving I seem to be having and then I will treat myself to a fudgesicle I have tucked out in my garage fridge. Ok, I feel better....thanks for bearing with me. For some reason this is really cathartic for me and I know I'll be able to do this now. I'm leaving work NOW!
Dd and I use the whole wheat pitas,,,,its very quick and easy to do. I cook some onions and peppers first in a little pam and water to soften them and then add them to the pizza.

Everyone, it so helps all of us when we share both victories and struggles, and how we get through the struggles and achieve the victories.
thanks jackie
Jackie, That is really sweet of you to tell me about that. I'm really touched and so glad you were able to utilize this for your own struggles! Thanks for sharing and congrats on winning your battle yesterday! Hugs!

Peg,
I just wanted to share with you that last night after working out at the Y, I was so tired and dragging and hungry, that I really wanted nothing more than just stop at any fast food place and grab something to eat rather than go home and fix what I had set out. All the way through my workout, all the way to the car, all the way home, (making sure I didn't choose a route that went by FF magnets) i kept fighting this urge by remembering that you were successful and that you were good enough to share your struggle with us!! Thanks so much...I kept saying, Peg did it, so can I!!

Peg, That ratio is about what I use as I need to eat mostly whole grains. I use pastry when I have it and regular ww when I have it. Both work well. I sometimes do a double batch and have extra to freeze.

No sweat! Thanks so much...I'm going to try and get some made up in the next week or so. I think I'll try to do mostly ww too. Like 3 cups ww to 1/2 cup white...sound reasonable? I also have ww pastry flour and regular ww flour. I should use the regular stuff right?
Peg, I am sorry that I did not reply earlier. I intended to, but got caught up in job search stuff. I have changed kd's recipe a bit and find it always works well.
Pizza Dough:
3 1/2 c flour *I use nearly all whole wheat, but you can work in what you and your family will eat. I also use 1/3 ryw flour sometimes as it adds a great flavor. 2 pkgs dry yeast 1-2 tea salt pinch of sugar 1 1/2 c warm water
Mix all ingredients and knead into a smooth dough. (It is fine to do this with a mixer.) You might need some small amount of extra flour for kneading. I use it immediately or frezze in 3 oz portions for later. Can also be refrigerated for a few days.

Bump to see if Sandy might be so kind as to post her ww pizza dough recipe. I can hear the distant thunder of the pizza cravings.
Congratulations on winning the "pull of the pizza".
I appreciate all the helpful comments from the others since Friday is traditionally "pizza night" at our house. When I was a kid, my mom used to take a package of refrigerator rolls and have us mash them down with the back of a spoon (1 segment of dough = 1 individual pizza). Each of us topped our pizza with what we preferred. I don't know why this wouldn't work out - although, I'd probably use a rolling pin nowadays.

Excellent idea, Peg! You might even be able to discern a pattern to your "difficult days" from doing so (not to say there is necessarily a pattern, but circling those days may help find one if there is).
Years ago, I was using Oprah's "Make the Connection" journal (marvelous, BTW) to both log my food and journal my feelings. I had known that I had these occasional days where I felt like I could eat EVERYTHING but I never associated them with that time of the month until I started keeping that journal. It was a powerful realization and one that helped me cope with the cravings in the future.

No Trader Joe's here but our Whole Foods should be open soon so I'll check there. Thanks!
One other note in regards to last night...I decided this morning when I was writing my points on the calendar (I've been doing the 5 point thing) that I would circle yesterday because it was a significantly harder day to earn those points than most other days have been. I'm going to go ahead and do that for a while. I think there have only been a couple others so far in the last 4.5 weeks so I think that if I can see I only have to make it through a few of those days a month, I will be more able to cope with them when they do come around. This is all an attempt to keep myself from falling into perfectionist mode and feeling like I can't fail even once and if I do 'why bother?'. Also, if there is some sort of pattern (yes, it is that time of the month but the last day that was so hard wasn't) I think I'll be better able to pick that up if I track it for a while.

Try making KD's pizza dough up ahead of time and freezing individual portions. The next time you crave pizza you can take a portion of the dough out and let it defrost while you are at work. It will be ready for your to roll out and put toppings on as soon as you get home.
It is a lifesaver for me!

I keep meaning to try making them on ww pitas. But I just used the last package to make pita chips instead.
I too, like mine sauceless. Pre-made sauces have so much sugar in them!
Last time, I bought some sprouted somethin or other crusts from the health food store, spritzed them with evoo, sprinkled on some minched fresh herbs, and topped with tomato slices, pinch of kosher salt, crack of pepper, slices of buffalo mozarella, bits of italian turkey sausage, and wee crumbles of bleu cheese.
DIZZAMN they were good! Next time I'm trying that on ww pitas, I swear.

I love making pizza dough in my breadmachine - it only takes an hour and is yummy! I tried using whole wheat flour once - what a disaster!!! Has anyone done this successfully?

Thanks for the tip. I guess I didn't think about asking them to leave off some of the cheese. Duh! I did order the thin crust from Papa John's the last time I had pizza (in April I think) so I did think of that but didn't think about the cheese. I'm sure the day will come that I won't be able to resist so I will tuck it away for future reference.
Thanks everyone! All the homemade pizza suggestions are great. I'll look for the crust recipe and get that act together soon. You are a blessing to me...this is truly one of the nicest boards on the Net!
I've found that sometimes I can't kick that pizza craving, so I've come up with a few better choices to handle that not so good pizza option. Maybe these will help for future pizza cravings.

After dinner, I immediately either tuck the rest in the fridge for lunches during the week, or I freeze pieces individually. At least then I have to make the effort to get more. By then I can usually think about it. The extra perk is that I can pull a piece out down the road when I crave it.
