I had the distinction of being the first person in the door this morning after the gym opened. I don't usually go that early but Missy had to be at the groomers by 8 a.m. so I figured while I was out, I may as well go to the gym.
Today was cardio day...did 40 mins on the treadmill.

Hi Arden. Welcome to the board, and thanks for the tip. I do need to find more "fun" things to do when I take a break -- instead of eating!
Iz, I guess it's the curse of this time of year: How to avoid doing your tax returns. I spent a lot of time with forms, receipts, and other papers spread out on the ottoman while I watched guilty pleasure TV.
i understand the procrastination thing. last week, i filed out taxes. what a pain in the ____. i kept microwaving more frozen dinners from trader joe. i was not hungry. i just needed to void doing those darned taxes. i balanced it out because the next day, i was not hungry until lunchtime. i think i had enough calories stored to last me for a while.

Susan, I , too, eat to procrastinate. One thing I've tried is timing my difficult tasks down to 25 mins. then I get to check my e-mail or facebook or read a chapter in a book I am currently reading. ARden

Right now I feel very run down and in ill health somehow. My first challenge is to tweak my daily meals in a healthier direction. It feels as if what I eat is sapping my energy. I was on vacation all of last week and spent the whole time blowing my nose - literally, as I was nursing a cold.
I like lots of snow as opposed to lots of slush, but it does cramp my style a bit since walking is difficult and I don't have proper outdoor walking shoes. Going to the gym or pool is nice but involves extra effort -- now there's another challenge.
Originally posted by susanrows: For this month, I want to work on my own brand of emotional eating -- a sort of food-as-procrastination thing I do. I tend to keep eating to prolong meals (especially breakfast and lunch) and put off tasks I'd rather not do. I also use food as a way to make unpleasant duties more tolerable -- as in, I can get through this tax questionnaire/phone call/bill paying/spreadsheet completion/whatever if I have something sweet to munch on. I've tried lots of ways to break these habits, but still they persist. I may just have to white-knuckle it for a while.

Any suggestions for a good green smoothie combo?
I plan to try this one soon. Let me know what you think.
Romaine lettuce 1 banana 1 lb cantaloupe or honeydew melon Watercress 1/4 tsp fresh grated ginger Lime juice (2-3 limes) 1 tbsp honey Water to taste
Serves 4.
You could probably use spinach instead of romaine. I'll probably dump the watercress and tweak the amounts a bit so I get only 2 servings.

I always use frozen fruit in my smoothies. There is always a banana involved and some yogurt, a splash of milk and then whatever fruit sounds good. My favorites are cherries, raspberries and strawberries. Every once in a while I get the frozen pineapple at Trader Joes. It's kind of like having a pina colada for breakfast. (:
I also like to add a spoon of wheat germ for added nutrition. I have been pondering trying the green smoothie thing. I keep buying spinach to throw in with the rest of the ingredients, but either I end up eating it in a salad or it goes bad in the fridge before I get to it.

That's almost exactly the one I usually make, except I leave out the OJ and add oat bran (for added fiber). Sometimes when I'm lazy I don't blend, just mash, and end up eating a very thick and chunky yoghurt. Works just fine.

Tried several other varieties but none I like as well as that.

Odwalla and Naked are two brands that sell ready-made smoothies. that is what i buy. i think, given my schedule, if i had to go get all the ingredients, blend them, clean out that blender, etc etc...i would just give up. i am all about convenience.

Category (as in Gory) Crash and Burn: Set out after work to shop for smoothie ingredients. Nearest grocery store was a biiiig dept store. Only... this week was opening week for their totally refurbished huuuge grocery and deli dept... and there I was, right in the middle of acres and acres of food, and gazillions of people.
I couldn't find ANYthing. I had to get out of there because of all the people -- and I got only a fraction of what I needed (for dinner, for smoothies, for anything). So I came home, bought takeaway Chinese for dinner instead of cooking, totaled the rest of the wine-in-the-box, and decided tomorrow would most definitely be a new day... sigh

Doing well with not eating to procrastinate. I've been keeping a bottle of flavored sparkling water next to the computer when I have a tedious task to perform. That's helping me stay away from snacks. But, to be honest, I haven't really been challenged yet this week. I haven't had any long drawn-out projects to work on for a while so I'm not sitting at the computer as much. My fundraising efforts are kicking into high gear soon, though, and that's a lot of envelope stuffing, spreadsheets, web site management, etc. -- just the kind of thing that tempts me with snacking to get through it. I will continue the sparkling water strategy.
i did a green smoothie cleanse after i came back from mexico. in mexico, it was meat meat meat and some fried beans, and not as much sleep as i like. when i got home, i felt tired for a long time and i could not figure out why. then a friend suggested i do some fruit and veggie smoothies for a while. i did for more than a week, and i did feel more refreshed afterward.
i drank the smoothie to replace one meal a day. otherwise, i ate cleaner in general.
