Your primary Motivation?

Have you ever stopped to think about why you really feel the need to lose weight, get in shape or pursue any other goal? Where in your life do you need to be a "heavy lifter"? Is there something big you’d like to achieve? Is someone (your boss, kids, spouse, community) counting on you? Are you counting on yourself?

Your future depends on what you do today. Choices you make now can affect you (and others) for years down the road. Even the smallest decisions – when added up over time – will determine whether you wind up at the top of your game or struggle along with the status quo.

Skipping a workout may not seem like a big deal. But think of what is really motivating you to lose weight. Is it worth risking that for the sake of watching another tv rerun? Throwing in the towel after overeating at the Fourth of July picnic isn’t hurting anyone – unless you count yourself and your loved ones. The overeating at the picnic is not what will defeat you. It is giving up and throwing in the towel because of it that will do the most damage.

For your weight loss goals to succeed, your main motivation should grip your attention like a new love. Your main motivation is the best reason you can think of for getting up, getting active and getting healthy.

#1 What is your primary motivation?

Enjoy the Fourth but to paraphrase something Denise has said, “It is only one day, not a week long holiday”.

#2 What are your plans for the Fourth?

1. do 4 laps on walking track without "resting"
2. do 1 mile (17laps) in 20 minutes (3miles per hour)

While my health is definitely a consideration (diabetes is hitting my family pretty hard), I'm probably more motivated by being able to continue doing all the things I am currently able to do.

Too much extra weight will make ice skating, roller blading, coaster riding, etc. tougher. Plus, I'm slightly less likely to get seriously hurt if any mishap happens.

And liking to exercise is keeping me from totally flipping out when I get buried under math related subjects (like Calculus or Physics Wink).

The 4th has yet to be determined in my house. It all depends on my family's choice of last minute plans, because I'm a planner, they're not. I will probably figure out how to fit at least one coaster ride in somehow. Even if it's a two wheeled bike type coaster ride down a big hill. Big Grin

Life is like a roller coaster, with lots of ups and downs, but the curves, spirals, loops and corkscrews are what make life interesting.

My primary motivation is to feel better in my own skin. Literally. When I am exercising, drinking water and eating my fruits and veggies my body literally "feels" different. I am regular, hydrated, and my skin glows.

I will likely be working over the 4th but will be treating myself to a long massage.

Not in your area, but just to give you hope that there are still some out there. My brother is renting a house and he has 2 dogs, a ferret and a snake. The dogs are DOGS too, a Great Pyrenees and a St. Bernard.

Primary motivation is my health. I like seeing the numbers so low, and I like feeling better than I've felt before.

Summer Challenge Goals:

1. Get out of the house and in the pool four days a week.
2. Schedule meals a week at a time.
3. five fruits and vegetables a day, along with water.

Health, and to look better and feel better.

I think we're getting together with my friend Carol. Carol and I have been friends since my junior year of high school. I'm not sure what exactly we'll do, but she invited us to "hang out". They live in the next suburb over, which has a cute little downtown and I think they have activities and music planned all day.

My primary motivation is looks. Probably why I am not losing because I want instant gratification and if I don't see a difference right away I give up. I lose weight very slowly so I really need to find a new motivation. I'm certainly not saying I want something to be wrong with me but the fact that my bloodwork always comes back completely normal-cholesterol, sugars, etc. does nothing to motivate me. My father is diabetic, as was my grandfather, but for some reason I cannot kick myself in the butt enough to get my weight down and reduce my risk of developing diabetes. I had an insulin resistance test done-also came back normal. I tend to lean toward low-carb because I do lose faster and see results faster but I can never stick with it for long. And when I do lose, I do feel better, and have more energy. I don't know what motivation I need to do this.

Plans for the 4th-we were invited to a picnic at my aunt's house which is great-big, secluded yard, in ground pool, good food of course. Not sure if we are definitely going-I have been slowly introducing jason to the fam, and this will be a lot of family to throw at him all at once Roll Eyes but I definitely know we are going to go somewhere to see fireworks.

Summer Challenge Goals:
1) Walk 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week
2) Plan weekly menus

My good health matters a lot. I also like looking thin and feeling thin.

The 4th will be busy for us. I am teaching cooking the 2nd and 3rd and then again on the 5th and 6th. So, I will need to shop and do some prep work.

Also, we have plans related to dd's 4-H stuff.

Summer Goal:
Eat Sitting Down

Denise went on a week long holiday with the first week of school. Wink But back on track since Saturday.

My primary motivation is health.

Plans for the 4th... I'm not sure... I usually have to stay in town and play... but that event was cancelled. But I have to play tomorrow night and on Sunday the 1st... but I might leave town for the 4th. Or go have a picnic dinner and watch fireworks with friends.

My primary motivation is definitely health. I have been able to bring my cholesterol and triglyceride numbers down, keep my glucose numbers down (I have a family history of diabetes), keep my blood pressure under control and actually improve my bone density in the past 4 years of eating healthy and exercising regularly. Being that I am in my mid-50s and have a family history of a lot of bad stuff, it makes me feel good to know that I am doing the right things for my health more often than not.

I currently have no plans for July 4th. It's not really a big deal to me. Being that it is in the middle of the week this year, with work days on either side, I don't suppose it's going to be much of anything but a blessed day off from work. I will no doubt grill something and enjoy my day off.

Rest of Summer Goals:
1. Exercise-Cardio: Min. 2-3 walking or DVD cardio workouts per week.
2. Exercise-Weights/Toning: Min. 1 weight plus 1 toning workout per week.
3. Food: Get those veggie servings back up to where they were!
4. Behavior: Start reducing sweets now that the automatic after-meal response is better.

I am really primarily motivated by looks -- is that a bad thing? I don't think my health is negatively affected by the 5 or so pounds I want to lose. I will say that in the beginning, when I had much more to lose, health was a big part of my motivation. Now I just want to look better in shorts.

I am finding it very hard to be disciplined on special occasions like the 4th, and that is definitely slowing my weight loss when there are so many occasions that I could consider special. We're going away for a camping trip and I'm hoping that food won't be a big issue because there will be a lot of other stuff to do.

1. I don't want to end up with diabetes. My dad's in danger of developing it, and my mom's dad DID develop it, so I'm convinced I have a predisposition to it. I'd rather take care of myself now. I also want to control my risk factors for developing another cancer as much as I can.

2. We haven't talked about the 4th yet, so I'm going to guess we don't have big plans Big Grin We are going to my FAVORITE restaurant on Friday night for a celebration, and there, it's simply worth it. It's not a towel-throwing-in, it's realizing that the food really is THAT good, and that a 6-oz filet, soup, salad, vegetables, a glass of wine, and dessert is NOT the end of the world.

I believe we'll sleep late, and maybe grill for dinner or lunch, which is pretty similar to a Saturday at our house!

Challenge Goals:
*10 minutes of unplanned exercise five times a week
*Gym time twice a week
*Socialize at least once every two weeks.

#1 My primary motivation is also my health. I've now been told multiple times that my recovery from my latest round of shock would have taken much longer had I not been active and eating well before hand.
I'm also motivated to not have to buy any additional clothes because I'm getting bigger!

#2 We are going to my parents for the 4th. Not usually great for me in terms of food but I did really well last time which is encouraging.
I will follow the successful plan from last time - help and clean as much as possible which keeps me away from the food, limit wine, load up on grilled veggies.

Out of our beliefs are born deeds; out of our deeds we form habits; out of our habits grows our character; and on our character we build our destiny.

#1 My primary motivation is good health. What I look like physically has never really concerned me. I just want to be healthy again.

#2 I don't know what we are going to do on the actual 4th but we are going to a fireworks show on Sunday. The guy doing the fireworks is a retired fireman I have talked to on-line and I will be meeting him in person for the first time Wink.
