This morning I was flipping through the channels and saw the infomercial for the foodsaver... it's where you vaccuum pack foods... They had a new model with some new features... I don't know why, but I started to watch it. I always seem to be throwing out a certain amount of produce every week because it goes bad before I can eat it... or sometimes I just forget I have it.
I am thinking about getting one... I went to target and they carried the older models plus the bags.
Does anyone have one of these and are they useful? Are they cost effective? They kept saying the food will keep up to 5X longer...but what does that mean...if the food is good for a week it will stay for 5 weeks being vaccuumed sealed?
Thanks for your help!

My nephew likes his. He got one for mother (his grandmother) and she doesn't care for it. Never even uses it anymore. It doesn't work very well with liquidy stuff like soups or sauces. If you get the least bit of moisture along the edge that is to be sealed it will not seal properly. Don't know much about it personally.

I just bought one. From Costco. Its better if you are going to freeze stuff. I used it to portion out individual sausages.....it doesn't make as small a packet as I'd like...but I haven't used it enough
