Did you follow a commercial plan to lose weight go it on your own? In the past I have tried a few...but currently I am not doing anything. I am pregnant and just educating myself for the future (post pregnancy weight loss) My husband is currently trying too drop a few, so I figured I can eat well NOW with him and develop some good habits...then try to shed a few pounds after the baby is born.
If you followed a commercial plan, what plan (WW, Atkins, etc.)? WW, Jenny Craig...and others quit them all before I hit my goal weight...never hit maintainence
Put an X next to the healthy eating & living concepts that you practice regularly: __X_ Drink plenty of water (48 or more oz. per day). ___ Eat 5 servings or more per day of fruits & veggies. ___ Eat all or mostly whole grain carbs vs. white. ___ Portion control your food (weigh/measure/use visual cues for portion size). ___ Exercise at least 3 days a week. ___ Incorporate strength training into your workouts. ___ “Everything in moderation.” ___ “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” ___ Mini-meal concept (eating about every 3 hours vs. 3 meals a day). _X__ Get enough sleep most nights (whatever 'enough' is for you). ___ Manage and cope with stress in a healthy way. Note: Edited to add last 2 options per Denise's suggestion.
I am new to the site...Like I mentioned, I am not looking to lose weight RIGHT now...although I shouldn't gain too much more weight. I was already overweight when I got pregnant, I just want to make some healthy choices for myself and family. I would like to educate myself and get in a routine. I just learned about KD today while watching PBS. I am thinkig about buying some books.
None(Infertility Drugs are the reason I am over weight)
How long on the board (FTV’s KD board, if applicable, + this board)?
2003ish off and on I lose track of time
Have you met KD in person? When/where?
NO I wish I could
Did you follow a commercial plan to lose weight go it on your own?
I go on and off plans that never work for me so now I am just going to eat healthy and exercise. I just always have something that gets in my way.
If you followed a commercial plan, what plan (WW, Atkins, etc.)?
I have tried: Body for life, South Beach, and Calorie counting. I gained on BFL & South Beach and just hated counting.
If you did it on your own, what is/was the basic premise of your self-made plan?
None currently just started
Put an X next to the healthy eating & living concepts that you practice regularly: _X__ Drink plenty of water (48 or more oz. per day). ___ Eat 5 servings or more per day of fruits & veggies. _X_ Eat all or mostly whole grain carbs vs. white. ___ Portion control your food (weigh/measure/use visual cues for portion size). _X Now_ Exercise at least 3 days a week. ___ Incorporate strength training into your workouts. ___ “Everything in moderation.” ___ “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” ___ Mini-meal concept (eating about every 3 hours vs. 3 meals a day). _X_ Get enough sleep most nights (whatever 'enough' is for you). ___ Manage and cope with stress in a healthy way. Note: Edited to add last 2 options per Denise's suggestion.
When you think of everything you have read and learned on the board, what 2-3 concepts/thoughs/lessons have stuck with you most? Good, Better, Best & Baby steps
Have you ever been a homework captain here on the board? If yes, what is your advice to new members about whether they should volunteer to be a captain?
Yes & I failed because I was in hospital. Advice don't get Ill. I failed everyone by not doing my part.
As a member, what is your perspective on/what do you gain from homework assignments?
They make me think about what I am doing in my life to sabotage myself.
If you have a tagline or saying that expresses who you are or your perspective on weight loss, what is it? (doesn’t have to be a tagline you use in your posts)
Do it for yourself.
Finally, if you could give one message to a new member reaching out for help with eating/living healthier, what would it be.
Take your time it doesn't all fall into place at once.
Our life is only what we make it.

Welcome to you Heidi! Wow you've had a year of amazing changes!
It sounds like you have a good plan that worked the first time around. No reason why it won't work now and of course, you've now found the support of this entire forum to cheer you along : )
summer 7 challenge goals: - Meditate every day - Start the day with positive imagery and self talk Out of our beliefs are born deeds; out of our deeds we form habits; out of our habits grows our character; and on our character we build our destiny.

Went every week, never lost more than 10 pounds, found the point system helpful in giving me an idea of good ranges, but bad in that it fed counterproductive obsessiveness-failure/binge cycle. I'm 5'6" and weighed 127 until I was 26 and then started gaining (could have something to do with living on beer and potato chips for a few years there). I now weigh close to 270 and would like to weigh between 140-165.
A couple months before I got married in 1989, I joined NutriSystem and lost 18 pounds to get down to about 180. It only cost me $2,000 and I only gained back 90 pounds. I'm sometimes slow but when I learn something I learn it well :-) Won't make that mistake again.
Basically I'm getting more active, drinking enough water (a huge priority of mine) and gradually modifying my eating/thinking about food. I'm giving it my best shot for a year (Chef Kathleen's Daybook) at which time I hope to be back at 180. I'm on Week 5.

If you did it on your own, what is/was the basic premise of your self-made plan? (essay)I started out by making sure to add a vegetable or fruit to every meal. I walk for fitness and am kept very busy chasing babies around the house.

How long on the board (FTV’s KD board, if applicable, + this board)? new
Have you met KD in person? When/where? Nope
Did you follow a commercial plan to lose weight go it on your own? (essay) about 6 months with Weight Watchers online, then moved to meetings - been there ever since ..
If you followed a commercial plan, what plan (WW, Atkins, etc.)? Weight Watchers Flex - tried core for about 3 months - no better or worse than flex, but I'm more comfortable with flex
If you did it on your own, what is/was the basic premise of your self-made plan? (essay)
Put an X next to the healthy eating & living concepts that you practice regularly: _X_ Drink plenty of water (48 or more oz. per day). _X_ Eat 5 servings or more per day of fruits & veggies. _X_ Eat all or mostly whole grain carbs vs. white. _X_ Portion control your food (weigh/measure/use visual cues for portion size). _X_ Exercise at least 3 days a week. _X_ Incorporate strength training into your workouts. _X_ “Everything in moderation.” _X_ “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” ___ Mini-meal concept (eating about every 3 hours vs. 3 meals a day). _X_ Get enough sleep most nights (whatever 'enough' is for you). ___ Manage and cope with stress in a healthy way. When you think of everything you have read and learned on the board, what 2-3 concepts/thoughs/lessons have stuck with you most? (essay) Before finding this board I spent a lot of time on the WW 100+ board and have learned so many things - early on it was a truly responsible for my success and motivation - way too many things to list... I guess as time goes on we read and learn so much and tend to experience a bit of diminishing returns, but over 2 and half years into this I continue to learn and be inspired from people along the way, regardless of how long they've been doing this ..
Have you ever been a homework captain here on the board? If yes, what is your advice to new members about whether they should volunteer to be a captain? (essay) Nope, not sure what that is yet ...
As a member, what is your perspective on/what do you gain from homework assignments? Still learning this one
If you have a tagline or saying that expresses who you are or your perspective on weight loss, what is it? (doesn’t have to be a tagline you use in your posts) more for inspiration in life rather than specifically weight loss - but it's part of a song "feet on ground, heart in hand, facing forward, just be yourself" from Good Mother Jann Arden ...
Finally, if you could give one message to a new member reaching out for help with eating/living healthier, what would it be? That this process changes and evolves and will over the years for you - if it's bad, it'll get better, if it's easy now it'll get harder at some point and you've got to stick with it - and above all else, what I know now - that I didn't at the beginning and never would've believed, is that I am in this for LIFE, I know above all else I will NEVER quit WW, I'll never stop trying ...
and that's so different from when I started - just thought I'd do this for awhile and then be 'finished' - I know now I'll never be finished ... and I'm way 'ok' with that ..

How long on the board (FTV’s KD board, if applicable, + this board)? Since 2002
Have you met KD in person? When/where? No sadly It would be my fondest dream
Did you follow a commercial plan to lose weight go it on your own? (essay) By commericial if you mean like Weight Watchers, etc. Yes I am a WW'er. I have been for the last 6 months. Prior to that I was going it on my own, but I found I needed the other person actually there weighing me to be honest. I tend to fudge (poor choice of words) at the scale.
If you followed a commercial plan, what plan (WW, Atkins, etc.)? Weight Watchers
If you did it on your own, what is/was the basic premise of your self-made plan? (essay) NA
Put an X next to the healthy eating & living concepts that you practice regularly: __x_ Drink plenty of water (48 or more oz. per day). _x__ Eat 5 servings or more per day of fruits & veggies. ___ Eat all or mostly whole grain carbs vs. white. __x_ Portion control your food (weigh/measure/use visual cues for portion size). __x_ Exercise at least 3 days a week. ___ Incorporate strength training into your workouts. _x__ “Everything in moderation.” _x__ “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” __x_ Mini-meal concept (eating about every 3 hours vs. 3 meals a day). _x__ Get enough sleep most nights (whatever 'enough' is for you). ___ Manage and cope with stress in a healthy way. When you think of everything you have read and learned on the board, what 2-3 concepts/thoughs/lessons have stuck with you most? (essay) WE all have to find a key that will unlock our method of loosing weight. If done in a healthy manner, there is none that are wrong or bad. Exercise is key to being healthy both in body, spirit and mind. Laughter is a key point to being able to loose weight...getting over our mistakes and getting back up again.
Have you ever been a homework captain here on the board? If yes, what is your advice to new members about whether they should volunteer to be a captain? (essay) Go for it. Sometimes the very things that you are struggling with someone else is, and you learn from them, or they provide you with alternatives that you never thought of. None of us are PHD's in nutrition (at least I don't think so) but we have practical experience in what works and what didn't work for us. That's what we are sharing in homework....ideas, thoughts, and alternatives.
As a member, what is your perspective on/what do you gain from homework assignments? Learning more about each other, and insight into my needs and wants as a person.
If you have a tagline or saying that expresses who you are or your perspective on weight loss, what is it? (doesn’t have to be a tagline you use in your posts) (essay) "Make the healthiest choices possible at all times in all situations. They may not be the healthiest ones you'd make tomorrow or yesterday, but they are for today and they are yours."
Finally, if you could give one message to a new member reaching out for help with eating/living healthier, what would it be?
Don't give up because you had a bad meal, a temptation or a flaw. Keep going, talk here, don't hold back...we've all been where you are and might need to hear what you have to say.
Summer Challenge Goals:
1. Get out of the house and in the pool four days a week. 2. Schedule meals a week at a time. 3. five fruits and vegetables a day, along with water.

Did you follow a commercial plan to lose weight go it on your own? No, this site and kd's daybook are the closest thing I've had to structure, and it's been wonderfully supportive

When you think of everything you have read and learned on the board, what 2-3 concepts/thoughs/lessons have stuck with you most?
babysteps behavioral goals not numerical goals if you fail to plan, you plan to fail (though i don't practice yet, this is very wise for me.)
Have you ever been a homework captain here on the board? If yes, what is your advice to new members about whether they should volunteer to be a captain? no.
As a member, what is your perspective on/what do you gain from homework assignments? This has been a wonderful way to admit that our heads/hearts are a massiv epart of the problem AND the solution.
If you have a tagline or saying that expresses who you are or your perspective on weight loss, what is it? (doesn’t have to be a tagline you use in your posts) I'll think about this one a bit. . .
Finally, if you could give one message to a new member reaching out for help with eating/living healthier, what would it be? If you are struggling with something, chances are you are not alone. Look to honest people whose hearts as well as bodies you admire, and see what advice they have. Obviously, this site is rich with that help.

If you followed a commercial plan, what plan (WW, Atkins, etc.)? See above
If you did it on your own, what is/was the basic premise of your self-made plan? I tried to do Weight Watchers on my own, I had no control and no one to hold me accountable.
Put an X next to the healthy eating & living concepts that you practice regularly: _x__ Drink plenty of water (48 or more oz. per day). _x__ Eat 5 servings or more per day of fruits & veggies. _x__ Eat all or mostly whole grain carbs vs. white. (we switched over about 1 year ago and the kids are getting used to it!) __x_ Portion control your food (weigh/measure/use visual cues for portion size). ___ Exercise at least 3 days a week. ___ Incorporate strength training into your workouts. _x__ “Everything in moderation.” ___ “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” ___ Mini-meal concept (eating about every 3 hours vs. 3 meals a day). ___ Get enough sleep most nights (whatever 'enough' is for you). ___ Manage and cope with stress in a healthy way. Note: Edited to add last 2 options per Denise's suggestion.
When you think of everything you have read and learned on the board, what 2-3 concepts/thoughs/lessons have stuck with you most? Baby steps, baby steps...In fact I just told someone that a few minutes ago!
Have you ever been a homework captain here on the board? If yes, what is your advice to new members about whether they should volunteer to be a captain? Just starting
As a member, what is your perspective on/what do you gain from homework assignments? Not sure, what that is yet!
If you have a tagline or saying that expresses who you are or your perspective on weight loss, what is it? (doesn’t have to be a tagline you use in your posts)
Finally, if you could give one message to a new member reaching out for help with eating/living healthier, what would it be? Get activity everyday and drink more water!
