The holiday weekend is upon us in full swing. I'm sure many of us have plans such as outings, picnincs, barbeques...

I know we all do our best to plan. The homework is to do the best that you can this weekend dealing with curve balls;handling the things that are out of our control, or handling things when our plan falls through.

Thing such as maintaining portion control. Even if we aren't in control of WHAT we eat, we can still control HOW MUCH we eat.

Getting in "incidental" exercise, even if we can't make our planned trip to the gym.

Report back later about how you handled any "curve balls" that may have come along.

OH, and have a fabulous 4th.

Dawn

I'm happy to report that I didn't gain any weight after my B&B weekend getaway. Meals and snacks were bigger than normal, but there was lots of walking and exploring, much of it climbing hills. And I managed to get in that morning run, though not on the beach.

I also discovered a new calorie-control trick, or more precisely a new application for an old trick. For years, I've been ordering salad dressing on the side and dipping my fork into it with each bite. You consume much less dressing that way. Over banana pancakes on Sunday morning, I found that it works pretty well with maple syrup, too. That assumes, of course, that you're the only one using the syrup pitcher, or at least sharing it with people who love you! Lucky for me, DH was having eggs that day.

Threw myself a curve ball today...

I thought I'd be done playing at the parade about 11:30am-ish... but we finished closer to 1pm. (Good thing I had some of those Irish Steel Cut Oats this AM... Smiler)

It seemed kind of an anti-climatic end to the holiday to go home and have a bean sandwich... so we went out for a burger and fries...

Having the bean sandwich for dinner and a cucumber salad... and a slice of KD's angel food cake.Smiler

EDIT: Ate 1/2 cucumber making the salad... and wasn't that hungry and only ate 3/4 sandwich... but did eat all my dessert!

My only curve ball so far has been rain. I had planned to swim a lot this weekend, or at least be playing in the pool, and it rained all day yesterday, and has been threatening rain most of today.

Did I get a curveball today? You mean other than the ice cream trucks, hot dog/hamburger stands and donut trucks at the festival? LOL.

I did ok though. Went for breakfast..coffee with milk, and a lf blueberry bran muffin.
Lunch was subway (best choice there)..veggie max (soy pattie)..sandwich..lots of veggies, baked chips and diet coke.
Dinner, just got home and made lemon pepper fish and had an organice whole grain muffin. I also snacked on almonds once in a while today...and had water.
Doing ok I think!

I got thrown a curve ball, too. I ate my curve ball, too.

I was going to have a snack before going to the grocery store... a couple slices of toast. dh said, "I've got have a sandwich left from my lunch at Togo's, you want it?" So instead of about 160 cals with a tsp of lite Smart Balance, I had half of a ham, cheese, bologna, salami sandwich... I'm sure that it is the worst sandwich Togo's makes... and then I ate my toast, too. Roll Eyes Kind of mad at myself because I was irritated when I ate it and didn't really enjoy it... although it was good.

So anyway the "good news" is that all happened at 4pm and I am REALLY not hungry now... although that is not the dinner I had planned.

I'm going to go pick some plums, and make a crisp... so at least we will all get 2-3 pieces of fruit for dessert tonight. Smiler

I had a curve ball today - the birthday party that I attended with dd had tons of food - pizza, chips, ice cream cake, etc... I had just planned on having a small piece of cake. While I didn't do terribly, I did have more than I planned. Then I told myself I would cut back on dinner - didn't happen.

Clearly I didn't do well with the curve ball today.

Hopefully there won't be more tomorrow! My plan now is to go on a very long run in the morning to burn off some of these calories.

P.S. Denise - your mil sounds like my mom in terms of food prep and her perception of an easy meal ; )

Thanks for the laugh. I needed it.

As soon as Dh gets back from the market, we're taking off for the weekend. Our destination: the world's largest salmon barbecue. I'm looking forward to the salmon, but I suspect that the traditional picnic stuff that goes with it will be not so pretty good. I think I can pass up macaroni and potato salad; we'll see what else they offer.

We're spending two nights at a B&B, and I have a weakness for the kinds of breakfasts they serve. So my plan is to eat slowly, and eat only the dishes I really like.

Should get sufficient exercise with lots of walking, possibly a morning run on the beach.

I don't really precieve a lot of curve balls... but who knows...!

We were invited to mil's. She is going to make an "easy" meal... grill some burgers, dogs, chicken, sausages; put a ham in the oven; throw together a couple of salads - potato, macaroni, cole, green, and fruit salads; put out some bowls of chips and dips and platters of cheese and crackers; a couple/three cakes and pies... just a "simple" meal on the 4th.

Anyway, she's about a 5 hour drive away on a holiday weekend and I have to play at a city celebration on Mon... so I'm dodging all these curve balls. Smiler

I want to go out for lunch one day and then have healthy meals planned at home the rest of the time. Last night fish/baked fries, pasta & pesto, low fat sausages on a bun, boca burgers.
