Could someone possibly tape something for me?
My sister is supposed to be involved in a story about Playboy Magazine on Fox News in Phoenix this week (possibly Thursday).
She lives in Cumming, Ga. and received a phone call from some outfit supposedly in Phoenix. They told her that Playboy was no longer mailing out renewal notices and the only way to renew her husband's subscription was over the phone thru them. She argued(sp?) with them for some time but finally agreed to a multi-year renewal for $90 and insisted on a confirmation in writing by mail and they agreed to send one. They kept calling and trying to sell her renewal extentions and making her mad again, over and over. When her credit card statement came, it had a phone number attached to that charge so she backtraced the number to a company in Phoenix and called them and told them to just cancel the subscription. They said OK but would not refund her money so she called the Phoenix BBB but they could not get them to refund it either. Then she got a paper renewal notice from Playboy in the mail.
She called Playboy and they knew nothing about this company that was solicting renewal over the phone and said that no one had any authority to do that. Not sure if Playboy is going to do anything to the media company but they probably will. She also received a call from a detective in Tempe Arizona who had gone out to the address associated with that company and discovered that it was a vacant building.
During all this, my sister remembered that our Fox 5 News station gives out a web address that ends with "atlanta" so just on a hunch she tried the same web address using Phoenix instead of Atlanta and it worked so now Fox in Phoenix is doing a consumer report about the media company that scammed her. The Phoenix location called and asked her if it was ok for the Atlanta people to come out and do an interview with her for their show and she agreed.
She said she never expected it to go this far when she backedtraced that phone number on her credit card bill.
I think her husband is going to get a free subscription to Playboy
but I don't know for how long.
