At the store today, I needed to pick up some things for lunch. For those installing the cabinets, I picked up some deli sandwiches, but didn't really want one myself.

In the deli/produce area, there was a refrigerated section with all things "Greek". Feta cheese (which I'd bought before), different flavors of hummus, some deli-made Greek salads. . .and with a "BUY ONE, GET ONE FREE" sticker, these little packages from Athenos with a container of hummus & pita slices!

I'd only had hummus once before and found it awfully salty (probably due to the person who made it), but I picked it up and looked at the ingredients, and remembered the persistent "try hummus" message from someone here, so I got a "traditional" flavor and a roasted red pepper flavor.

Holy smokes, they were DELICIOUS! And filling! And not a bad deal as far as fat & calories and feeling like I was eating something sinfully rich.

So, whoever it was that was plugging the hummus, thank you!!! I expect I'll go back and stock up on those, try out all the flavors, and then try making my own. . .I'll go back through and see if I can find the recipe that was posted.

Seriously, though, delicious.

D

Pete, making your own is very easy. I also cut whole wheat pitas into 8 pie-shaped pieces and then divide the top and bottom parts.(16 pieces per pita) Spray them with garlic oil spray and season with cumin, lemon pepper, garlic powder, and cayenne if you want them hot. Put in a 400 degree oven and watch closely because they will burn. These go wonderfully with hummus or tzatziki, a cucumber and yougert dip.

Glad to hear it D!
We love hummus and it's a staple at our house.
It makes a great snack on ww tortillas.

Out of our beliefs are born deeds; out of our deeds we form habits; out of our habits grows our character; and on our character we build our destiny.
