I am wanting to eat something - ANYTHING and I shouldn't be hungry. This never happens in the morning to me! I had oatmeal with fruit this morning (1 1/2 - 2 hours ago). I need to be accountable right now to get through this until lunch. I will sit right here at my desk and not get out of my chair for anything (except more water). I will make it through this craving until lunch.

Instant oatmeal is a whole different beast than "real" oatmeal. It's as white bread to whole wheat packed with grains-- too refined to do much good. Steel-cut oats are the best, if I remember correctly. The closer to the untouched grain, the more fiber it has.
I find that hot tea can stop a craving-fit... I don't know why. Maybe the heat relaxes my tummy. Otherwise, go with stuff that'll give you a little acid reaction-- hot stuff, spicy stuff, sour stuff. An acid tum is not a hungry tum.
Also, if you have a little privacy, take a dance break! Get the endorphins pumping and you'll forget about food-- not to mention give yourself a little extra exercise!

Beth, I was in the samae boat this AM. I was really WANTING (felt like NEEDING) to eat at times. I wanted to post. This is the first I have been at the computer. I think that the chocolate drink I had yesterday was part of what set me up for this. My lunch is in the oven now. I made it. Glad you did too.
When I eat oatmeal I always feel more satisfied when I make it from scratch and avoid the packets. I also notice that when I give my daughter a packet, whe is wanting another something 90 minutes later. If she eat the "real" stuff she seems fine for longer. I reasct a lot to sugar. It makes me want to eat. I am no one of those who can eat a small chocolate everyday. I am so much happier and less stressed avoiding it.

I eat oatmeal made from scratch 6 days a week .
I think that there might be a difference in the fiber... (but I'm not 100% sure...) If "real" oatmeal has more fiber... it would keep you full longer.
Also, if you make the oatmeal with 8oz of skim milk... you are adding protein and it will keep you full longer.
Does the instant you use have sugar in it? A lot of the instant does. That would make a big difference... You can add your own sugar (1/2 - 1 t.) to the "made from scratch" and save a bunch of cals... and eat more oatmeal .

Instant oatmeal is not very filling for me. I do better with whole oats that I have cooked in the microwave and then flavored. The instant stuff just doesn't seem to be as substantial, probably because it goes through more of the processing than making oatmeal with the whole oats.
Glad to hear that you made it through to lunch time.

Life is like a roller coaster, with lots of ups and downs, but the curves, spirals, loops and corkscrews are what make life interesting.
I did make it to 12:15 after some major redirecting of my brain! THANKS for the suggestions. I ended up making a cup of hot tea to get me through.
KD, in answer to your question it is a packet of instant oatmeal w/ apples and cinnamon, but I also add a fresh diced apple and more cinnamon. This has worked and held me to lunch until today. Is there a difference in the made from scratch and instant besides the sodium?
Thank you also for the skim milk suggestion. I am going to get a small bottle and stick in the fridge here!
The nice thing about working where I do is we have a fully functional break room with a stove/oven, microwave, dishwasher, cabinets and a refrigerator. So I can bring anything I really need.
Thanks again everyone! I hope these don't happen too often!

I know that sometimes when I had a big weight loss I was often REALLY hungry the next week. (I never had a 6 lb weight loss, even the first week! A big loss for me was 1.5 lbs.)
If you ignore this craving, will you be in danger of eating more at lunch or dinner or this afternoon?
Sometimes, you can tough out a craving and feel good about it... and sometimes you ignore feeling really hungry and it backfires.
Or... is it a stressful day at work? Are you hungry in your body or head?
Lots of possibilites! I agree with KD. A glass of skim milk or even some hot tea with 1/2 c. skim milk can do wonders...
Hang in there!
