We really like to have grilled Brats during the spring and summer, but they are SO full of fat. I have seen the Boca Brats and wondered if they were any good.

I saw Bee's chicken brats at Harry's yesterday, and all three of the ones Fer mentioned. It may just be a case of trial and error.

Fer, you are right, the Tofurkey ones have a LOT of fat. I guess it isn't animal fat though, so while it is fat it is healthier fat.

I also like grilled Brats. Like you, Dawn, I avoid them because they are so full of fat.

I have found buffalo brats made locally as well as some chicken brats.
Both are fine.

I like Boca brats ok, but would much rather go for chicken or buffalo sausage. I think the consistancy is more like "normal" to me.

Dawn, did I miss something is there a Trader Joes in or around Atlanta? We used to shop there a lot when we lived out in California.

Jayne,

NOT YET! I so wish. There are two in Indianapolis, where I am from originally. My parents are still in Indiana, so they make Trader Joe's runs for me. TJs is opening in Atlanta, not sure when or where. Last week there was an another article in the AJC about it.

Thanks Fer and Bee.

Whole Foods and Harry's both carry a lot of Tofurkey products, so I might try those.

I'll also look for the Hans Chicken brats. I tried the chicken brats in the meat case at Harry's and recall not liking them, although I have liked other chicken sausage from there. Trader Joe's has a GREAT chicken chorizo that is a super pizza topping.

If you don't mind having meat, the Hans Chicken Brats are really good too.

I've seen 3 types of vegetarian brats - Boca, Tofurky and Yves. I prefer the Tofurky (who also makes a yummy sundried tomato sausage), hands down to the rest. They have tons of flavor, but consequently have the most fat and calories of the three. Still, it is healthier than the real thing!

Since you may only have access to the Boca ones, I enjoyed them, but as with all of the meat analogues, it always comes back to your taste and texture preferences.

Good Luck!
