I'm a rut kind of girl. Some ruts are good, like when you deliberately make a double batch of something just so that you can freeze a bunch of meals for "emergency" use.

Some ruts are bad. Like two nights of insomnia in a row causing some (kind of) nasty mood swings.

So, in the interest of shaking things up a little bit (or maybe I was inspired by watching "Skating with the Stars" and the song "Shake your groove thing", shake up one rut that you have been in for a while.

Everybody can do it...bundle up and go get some fresh air, go to the library and pick out a new exercise DVD/video that you would otherwise never pick out, turn on Fit TV and do a workout, just do something different. Get a cookbook from the library, peruse a recipe site, just put aside that same old, same old and go for it.

If you don't like it, fine, but the important thing is to face whatever is holding you back and move past it.

Life is like a roller coaster, with lots of ups and downs, but the curves, spirals, loops and corkscrews are what make life interesting.

Just put a yoga dvd on hold at the library to try out. I'm starting to feel the winter duldrums setting in so something stress relieving AND rut relieving seemed in order. Will try to get by there tonight or tomorrow night to grab it.

Sounds like a fun assignment! After watching years of WNTW I am sold on the idea that "hiding" doesn't work.

I am in a clothing rut. Some of this is because of my current weight and some because I work from home, don't go out too much except occasionally to eat and wear the same old stuff all the time. I am hoping with my exercise goal that I will begin to be more comfortable with my appearance and will buy some cool new clothes. Since I don't buy much when I do go shopping I buy "safe clothes" which for me are clothes that don't show too much and are comfortable(The exact kind of clothes Clinton and Stacy from What NOt To Wear throw in the trash!).
So to get out of my rut I am going to try and find an outfit that fits me now and flatters my current figure.

I am going to try to get to the library and see what they have in the way of exercise tapes. I say try because my dd is home sick today.

Ahhhh the rut and I are old friends. It seems that I am always in one. My rut now a days is my after dinner routine. It seems to always be the same. Dinner, clean up, bathe the kids, story time bed time, sit in front of the computer or TV until 10:30 or 11:00 then time for bed!

Last night we went for a family walk , we had to vote for a new parliment, so I suggested we walk. It went well and we still had time for storytime.

So in order to shake things up a bit I will try and do a family activity every second night when baths are not needed. For the after the kids go to bed activities, I will try and pick at least one night a week to do something other than computer or tv

Enjoy every minute!

Jennifer

Goals for April: Exercise 3 times a week. Drink more water everyday.

Long Term Goal: Weigh-in at 180 lbs by my next Birthday. (Sept-13/06)

Laura,

I finally took Denise's suggestion and ordered a walking tape from workoutmusic dot com. (Many, many thanks, Denise!) I was so into high school marching band and have missed the Sousa marches. Well, I've got plenty of them now. I listened to the tape at home to make sure it worked. I didn't want to have technical problems on the walk. All went well. I found DW's portable tape player, but it didn't work. After purchasing a new one (do you know how hard it is to find a portable tape player these days?), I went to my gym to hit the treadmill. The new player malfunctioned. It played the tape at what seemed double speed. Arrrggghhh!

I plan to exchange the player on my way home from work today and then take myself to the gym for a little "parade" of my own. (Yes, I'm a nerd. And I know that some of you are, too (huge smile).)

All my best!

Bill

I've been in a food rut. I got out of it last year and tried all kinds of new recipes that we loved but somehow we got back to doing our old standbys.

I need to pull out the cookbooks again this weekend and choose at least one new recipe to try per week - particularly from my vegetarian cookbook!

I will admit it in public...I love to dance, but am often too shy to do so in front of people...at least anything that requires any moves that look best when someone toothpick thin does them.

So, I have a bunch of new workout DVDs from the library...bellydancing, salsa dancing, and another latin dance workout. And you know what? I really got into both. I am not the elephant in a tutu (Fantasia, anyone?) that I thought. Razzer

I am going to make some of the DVDs permanent additions to my collection, 'cause this time of year, I have had enough of my treadmill, bike, and traditional workouts after being cooped up for nearly 3 straight months. And since I'm having fun in my basement, I don't have to worry about any criticism, I can just let go and enjoy the dancing.

Down the road, I'll probably look for an excuse to use these newly found skills, but it'll be someplace where no one knows me. Wink
