A couple of weeks ago, I sought your advice about a meniscal (cartiledge) knee tear that my Dr. had diagnosed. I was going through the dilemma of to operate or not to operate.
My dr said that he was sure of the diagnosis, but that I needed an MRI for insurance, even though it would be a waste of time and money.
I got the MRI results today and there is NO TEAR! The report was written in medical-ese, but it read to me like some sort of severe muscle strain with some internal bleeding. But there was no doubt what "no evidence of tear to the meniscus" meant.
I have an appt. on Thurs with the dr to go over the results. He doesn't yet know that he was mistaken. It should be interesting to hear what he has to say. Everyone makes mistakes, but it is alarming to me how sure he was of his incorrect diagnosis. Amen for second opinions!
Yea!!!!
Thank you again for your support and advice.

I dislocated my patella (knee cap) in March. One of the exercises I have to do is to go up and down a step v-e-r-y slooooly. I did this exercise at the bowling alley today, as they have a step... and thought that might be a better use of my time rather than sitting and drinking coffee while ds takes his turn.
I did this step exercise with and without an 8# bowling ball. I was REALLY surprised at the difference just 8 lbs made. It was the difference between pain and no pain...
Eight lbs seems like a really insignificant amount of weight to lose (unless you lose really slowly and then 8 lbs represents 16-20 weeks of effort and commitment!), but any little bit of weight you can lose is going to help your knee!
(PS I'm also surprised at the difference push ups have made in my bowling game... I heave the ball into the gutter with incredible force now!)
