Explanatory Notes for New Folks:
1. The Group Journal was created to give everyone a place to post things that perhaps they didn't want to start a new thread about, but just wanted to get off their chest. It can be used by anyone for any reason--celebrate your successes, vent your frustrations, ask questions, ask for support, whatever you need to do...that's what the journal is for!

2. Because the original Group Journal got very large and unwieldy to read, we decided that we'd cut off each Journal as it reached 70 posts and then create a new one. This Journal is called "Group Journal #34" because it is the 34th such post since the Journal was created.

3. When the Journal was created, we agreed that things posted here didn't necessarily require a response. Sometimes you just want to report or vent but don't really expect a reply. Other times, you may want feedback. Feedback is fine here, just not required/expected.

4. To make each Journal different from the next, I began creating theme journals, just as if our "virtual" online journal here was an actual paper journal we were writing our thoughts in. So, while I post the Journal threads, I often write them as if I was the Journal character. It's silly but folks seem to enjoy it.

Hey all! I'm Leif. I figured that since we are finally getting closer to spring, it might be good to switch from a wintry journal theme to a spring-like one. As a result, my cover features green silk leaves of several shapes and varieties on a brown background. Inside, my pages are pale yellow with kelly green lines. The lower corner of each page is decorated with a new spring leaf or blossom.

I'll be on this smooth oak table next to a modern wire basket filled with crunchy fruits and veggies. The silly rubber pen is a tree branch and, as usual, a slim silver ballpoint is provided for those who can't see themselves writing with flora!

Enjoy your Journal!

lz,

As to the divorce - here's to new beginnings.

The doc found 3 polyps in dh's colonoscopy. The doctor said that is not what would have been causing the blood nor would it be what is causing dh his other problems. We see this doc in 2 weeks. DH sees his GP next week. At least we have something to report to the GP and can now look other places (ulcer, gall bladder).

Thanks for the warm thoughts. DH is such a bear when not being able to eat and then drinking that stuff!! Yuck!

That is good news, to finally have it over and done. When I got my divorce decree in the mail (my ex filed and then refused to sign the papers-go figure-so we had to wait two years and then it became final) I was so excited I hung it on my refrigerator! My dd was too little to read so she could not tell what it was.

Note to all: Sorry I have been lax in creating a new journal. I usually do that at 70 posts and here we are almost double that! I just noticed the other day that it was time to create a new one, but there was a flurry of postings and I didn't want to interrupt the flow. I'll try to get a new journal up this weekend.

I'm not quite sure if "Congrats" are in order (depends on how one feels about their divorce, I guess), but I imagine it must feel good to have it over.

That is great, Iz.

My little friend showed up today. And I have a ton of things to do for tomorrow. My appetizer/nosh list just got significantly shorter. Cramps have a way of putting the kibosh on stuff. On the other hand, I love having wireless. I can't believe I didn't set this up before!

Linda ~ I certainly hope that all is well with your husband. Sending big cyber hugs to you, and will have you in my prayers.

I got to see my grandniece yesterday !!! Haven't seen her since the funeral so it was a great visit. Poor little mite, is now living with a dad who did the "every other weekend" thing. So it has been an adjustment for all of us. and I told her dad, that I certainly do understand that they maybe having a difficult time too. After all, they didn't just get a child they have also inherited all of us too!

My leg is doing well - not well enough to be totally out of my boot. But hopefully I can work up to that! Made the mistake of not using it for 2 days, (thought walking while at work - should be a piece of cake !! ---NOT) come Saturday- couldn't walk at all. BIG Mistake.

Spring is here finally !! my tulips, daffodils are up and beautiful !! But now I also have to cut my grass. Frowner

I hope that life is joy for all of you

Tina

Thanks for the warm thoughts.

Knowing that Bill has a family history, I decided to be the good model when he got to the appropriate age. We went together to see the doc for the initial visit. Unfortunately, his appointment for the actual colonoscopy was the week before mine. He grumbled and grouched through the entire 1-1/2 days of prep and not eating - UNTIL the ride to the hospital when he did what he just about always does when leaving for a trip to the next town. He grabbed and drank a Coke. That put the kabash on his colonoscopy that day.

When I went through the prep the next week. I did it without gripe. He did the same on his second try. And I was the one with the polyps that time.

When I had my colonoscopy about 5 years ago, I heard all the horror stories about prep, but found it to be a piece of cake. That said, every doctor uses different prep methods and products, so it's a really individual experience.

My gastroenterologist uses Versed during the colonoscopy so you are awake but unaware of what's going on. They tell you that you may not remember anything due to the Versed. I had it twice within 6 months--once for the colonoscopy and once for an endoscopy--and I could remember what the doctor told me after the colonoscopy (while I was still drugged) but not what she said after the endoscopy. In fact, for one of the two, I can't even remember walking from the recovery room to the dressing room, dressing myself, and walking out to meet my friend who drove me there.

I had a colonoscopy years ago. The prep is the worst part. The procedure itself is undignified, but not that bad.

Linda,

My bil has a family history of colon cancer. He was having similar symptoms as your dh. He went for the colonoscopy and goes once or twice a year to get them done. He ended up having some polyps which were I believe fairly easily removed. It is good that he is going, even though I'm sure it is very nerve-wracking for you both not knowing the outcome. Best to go now though and rule out anything serious or begin treatment right away if there is something. I'll say a prayer for you both and will be thinking of you.

Jill

Your dh is smart to get things checked out. My dh had one two years ago. The worst part is the prep.

I'll be thinking about you guys.

Husband has a colonoscopy scheduled on Friday. We are both nervous about it, but not talking to each other about it too much. He's having it because his physician found blood where he shouldn't have. There is a history in Bill's family, but he had the test 2 or 3 years ago and was told not to come back for 5 years.

Added to the concern is Bill's been having discomfort in his stomach/upper GI area. I'm wondering if it might be his diabetes pills. The GI doc asked him to get a blood test this time (didn't last time). Bill has taken this to mean that the doc may think he has cancer.

DS, on the other hand, is giving me fits about not applying to college(s) despite the fact that this is the time he will find it easiest to get scholarship money. The local university even hunted him down.

This too shall pass.

I quit the Senior choir I was singing with. I was overbooking myself. It wasn't fun anymore. When I started with them, I already had a commitment 2 Monday's a month in Columbus so that made attending all the rehearsals a problem. I wouldn't get all the information needed when I did show up.

I am helping sub as church organist - finally.

Linda

You will once word gets out. I actually have people requesting me now, and that's really nice.

I don't think our schools have office subs. I wish they did, I would do that.

Good luck!

It is my bet that you will have more sub jobs than you want by this time next year. Again and again, I find that good subs (working in whatever capacity) are not easy to find. You'll surely be a hot one to catch!

And word always gets around in a school district. Plus, this summer you could pop in at a few schools - let them know you're competent and interested and well trained.

I trained for 3 hours today to be a sub in the office at school. I'll be working for a week and subbing for somebody who will be out of town later in the month.

I'm hoping that it will turn into more hours (as we could use a little more cash flow... and I should probably start supporting my skiing habit Smiler)

There are two people in the office and one of them commented that she was so excited to be working with somebody with more than have a brain… and most of the subs need a lot of “baby sitting”. I was basically trained on the district computerized attendance system.

The district doesn’t pay for training… and I was sort of blown away and kept saying, “The district office sends people over who don’t have any training in this?????” and the two people in the office kept saying… yup… they just show up and most of them just sit around and don’t do anything or have to be kept busy… but aren’t much help.

I’m hoping that if word gets out to the other 28 elementary schools in the district that I’m competent and actually know how the system works… I might pick up more sub days.

And I got interviewed on the phone by the Courant because of Pangea Day! Eeeeeeeeeeeeee!

(I'm just hoping I didn't sound like a ditz)
