Since I got some rugs from the family which have been in storage for ages, they smell like mothballs. Any suggestions on removing the stink?

Maybe sprinkly them liberally with baking soad, let it sit for a while, then vacuum.

I feel for you, cate. That smell gives me such a bad headache.

Fall goals:
1. Bike 40-50 miles a week
2. Prepare new garden bed for next season
3. Heal my back

I agree.
I've lived in Japan where it's quite humid and you run the risk of getting mildew in your things, so they use mothballs all the time.
They get the smell out (and get rid of any dampness) by hanging things out in bright sunshine and fresh air. Try it!

Smiler Have you tried steam cleaning with white vinegar? White vinegar is great for removing odors. Otherwise, if they are valuable, I would have a professional do it.
