Which should I use?

I have a choice of 3 peanut butters, well, actually there are a lot more out there but I have narrowed it dow to these 3. All have the same serving size, 2 Tbsp.

cal........190........190........190
fat.........16g........12g........16g
sat fat.....3g.......2.5g........3g
sodium...65mg.....250mg...150mg
carbs......6g........15g.......7g
fiber.......2g..........1g........2g
sugars....2g........4g........3g
protein.....8g..........8g........7g

They all have 0 chol and trans fat.

I generally use peanut butter in one of two ways. I either use 1 serving with my banana at breakfast or I will use 1 serving with 5 (1 serving) Whole Wheat Ritz for a snack.

(PS: it sure takes a lot of adjusting to make numbers line up anywhere near close to organized Wink)

Me too. I've been eating for so long that the other stuff doesn't taste right to me. I always had a bit of raspberry jam though so I still get the sweetness from that.

Me too. I love the Whole Foods Organic. It is my favorite.

Don't care much for almonds, Dena does and she drinks Almond Milk instead of regular milk.

I do love cashews though Big Grin and since I can no longer chew nuts, cashew butter is a lifesaver when I get to wanting the taste of cashews.

hmmm, i never thought to look at sodium content. i usually just read the ingredients to make sure everything is natural, and I purchase it since the calorie count differences are only about 10 calories.

If sodium is an issue for you... that might be a factor.

It seems to me that when a product has higher-than-average sodium, it is often done by the manufacturer to try to cover up a worse-than-average taste.

Therefore, low/no/reduced fat processed foods often have the highest salt content.

As an example, Regular Jif Creamy has 150mg of sodium, and Reduced Fat Jif Creamy has 250mg of sodium. Less Fat = More Salt.

Since both products are 190 calories a serving, the fat reduction in the latter strikes me as being rather pointless.

I'd eat the one that I LIKE the best!!! Smiler

In your case... all three contenders are the same calories.

If sodium is an issue for you... that might be a factor.

But I buy and eat the peanut butter than I think tastes the best. Life is too short to eat yucky tasting food.

Thanks everybody Big Grin.
I had pretty much come to the same conclusion but wanted your input also.

And the winner is(ta-dah!)

#1, Simply Jiff (low sodium, 33% less sugar).

Ingredients: Peanuts, contains 2% or less of: fully hydrogenated vegetable oil (rapeseed and soybean), mono- and diglycerdies, molasses, sugar, salt.

(and yes, there is nothing else between "mono- and" and the next word. Wink)

I will finish off the jar of Reduced Fat that I have and swap the jar of Regular (since it has not been opened).

My main reason for picking Simply Jiff was the low sodium. According to FitDay I am way high on that every day Frowner.

I ate natural pb for a while back when I was first transitioning to healthy eating. I never enjoyed it--I was only eating it because it was supposedly better for me.

A couple of years ago, I went back to good ol' Jif creamy, which has always been my favorite. I figured for as much as I'm eating it (spread on 1/2 a bagel maybe once a week at most), I would just have the real thing.

I tend to agree with the others.

I happen to like natural pb with only salt and peanuts. I'm eating TJ's brand these days.

Sadly, I have had to cut back on pb because of the saturated fat. I still eat it- just limit it.

Regular Jif Creamy has 150mg of sodium per serving. 250mg of sodium per serving strikes me as being unnecessarily high.

(Jiff Natual Creamy has 75mg of sodium per serving.)

It depends on what is most important to you - lower fat, lower sodium, lower carbs, lower sugar?

Personally, would eliminate #2 because even though it's the lowest in fat, it's the highest in carbs, sodium and sugar. My assumption would be that there is sugar added to it.

Given the remaining options, I would pick #1 since the numbers are slightly better and it has 1/2 the sodium of number 3.

Ultimately though it needs to taste OK too! ; )
