I was rudely reminded today that biking weather is almost gone. (I love to bike and try to pretend for as long as possible that bad weather won't come.)
What kind of activites will you torture yourself with, I mean to get your exercise in, when the weather finally does turn? How much of a change is that in your workout routine?
Have you already adapted a new workout schedule because of the new school year (if your household is affected by school semesters)? Do you have a harder time exercising in the "dead of winter"?
Or, do you prefer my approach and just try to pretend that the change in seasonal weather won't affect your exercise in any way?
Life is like a roller coaster, with lots of ups and downs, but the curves, spirals, loops and corkscrews are what make life interesting.
Right now I enjoy walking and biking (except my bike is at the shop being serviced for the first time in 13 years!), but when the weather gets rainy and cold I know I'll be only too happy to use lack of proper shoes as an excuse not to walk.
My winter workout is easy: there is none. My winter workout is called "wallow to the fridge and back"
This winter I plan to swim and maybe sign up for a beginner's Pilates class if I can find one that fits in with my schedule. I also plan to buy a pair of winter walking shoes.

The end of the heat and humidity of DC summers is actually a GOOD sign for me...a sign that I can start getting out to walk more frequently. I tend to exercise more indoors during the summer, at least during July and August, and exercise more outdoors during the spring and fall, then winter I go back indoors except when the whether is mild enough for me to walk.
Summer Se7en Challenge Goals: 1. Add back core & toning work + weight work 1X each per week to start. 2. Tackle the Sugar Monster--Have a sugar free mint after lunch and dinner, wait 20 minutes, and reassess the need for a sweet treat.

I realized this morning that one of my new routines will be changing soon. We finished a sort first phase in landscaping our very-steep-hill backyard earlier this summer. We now have 77 railroad tie steps leading to the top of our yard, and I've been using them as my own personal outdoor stairmaster.
The light by the back door used to be enough to help me see what I was doing, but today it was almost too dark to see the steps -- and going down them in the dark is a little too hairy. So that particular workout may be limited to weekends when I can do it later in the morning.
I have two things that I can choose from, swimming or my Pilates tapes. I use the tapes when I can't get to the pool, but fortunately doesn't happen very often. I am taking a yoga class for "oldsters" the one where you are very gentle with your joints, etc....so I will have three things to choose from. But I will always chose the pool first.
Summer Challenge Goals:
1. Get out of the house and in the pool four days a week. 2. Schedule meals a week at a time. 3. five fruits and vegetables a day, along with water.

Last year was the first year I ran almost all year long. I think there were maybe only 2 weeks last winter where the roads were too icy or the wind chill just way to cold and I was forced indoors on a treadmill or on my cross country skiier.
Usually, the school year is easier for me in terms of exercise as I'm at the gym more (my work load slows way down in the summer) and I can run after I put dd on the bus on non-gym days.
I also walk more during the year - more back and forths to the bus stop, walks with friends and neighbors after my runs, etc....
I also hate the heat and humidity (although we didn't have too much of that this year) and would prefer to run in the cold than the heat. My motto is you can always put more clothes on but there is only so much you can take off : )
summer 7 challenge goals: - Meditate every day - Start the day with positive imagery and self talk Out of our beliefs are born deeds; out of our deeds we form habits; out of our habits grows our character; and on our character we build our destiny.
Our weather here is a little different. We "hibernate" indoors during the summer, and once the weather turns, are able to actually enjoy where we live. But...during the summer, my workouts are all in the gym. I won't take the dog out until nearly dark because of the heat and humidity...and the nearly-daily afternoon/evening thunderstorms.
I know it's easier for us to exercise once it cools down. It's really hard to convince yourself to park further away from work when the low was 85 and the high will be 95, so unplanned exercise really suffers during the summer. But once it's cool, walking extra steps is easy; the dog loves to be out in the neighborhood, and we like strolling through the neighborhood as well.
Challenge Goals: *10 minutes of unplanned exercise five times a week *Gym time twice a week *Socialize at least once every two weeks.
i am usually in the gym so there is really no change due to weather. i do enjoy an outdoor run once in a while so i will just have to dress appropriately for the weather. it does not get cool around here until the end of october, so the ole gym shorts are still in commission. i usually change my exercise routine due to boredom. weather is not that big of a factor.
Goals: 1. Stop thinking like a chronic dieter and start living to inspire. 2. HALT (hungry, anxious, lonely, tired) I will stop and tune in with myself should I experience these things, and respond with something healthy. 3. One word 2008: courage 4. Eat slow and mindfully.
Considering I have no real exercise plan right now I would have no changes due to weather. But, when I do have an exercise plan in place it is either yoga at home or at the gym so really there would be no change.

Summer Challenge Goals: 1) Walk 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week 2) Plan weekly menus
Out of sheer stubbornness (which can occasionally be a good thing ), I will be dragging the old bike out for as long as I possibly can.
When the cold hits, I'll probably try to get out and run occasionally, but I don't like being cold. I have a rather substantial DVD collection that keeps me entertained, and I am always using different ones (thanks to my self-imposed rule of no DVD being used more than one time per week).
But I can still bike indoors, and always bike on test days, so I can go through the material one more time. I also have my treadmill, and I do go out now and then to ice skate at a nearby community rink.
Not exercising is usually not an option, my back, my trainer, and my dietician would all have a fit.
