Hey Sheri, how are you going to read two books when you start working from home ?
Good point! LOL I've been reading two books simultaneously for so long that it is just "the way it is" to me. I suppose I could still have one for lunchtime and one for bedtime--they'd just both be in the same building. One would be on my nightstand and the other on my veranda reading table.

At work, I'm finally closing in on the final chapters of Kate Atkinson's One Good Turn. Really enjoy her work--it's on the complicated side of things in terms of keeping straight all the characters and how they all end up relating to one another, but really worth the extra effort IMHO.
At home, I just started Helping Me Help Myself: One Skeptic, Ten Self-Help Gurus, and a Year on the Brink of the Comfort Zone by Beth Lesick (I think). It is sort of a funny/sarcastic take on self-help books.

I finished reading Look Me in the Eye: My Life with Asperger's by John Elder Robison. He is the brother of Augusten Burroughs of Running with Scissors infamy. I didn't really like Running. I loved Robison's book. Much insite.
I also just finished Stormy Weather and don't have a book for the car to replace it yet. AAAAAARRRRRRGH!
Have started Jeffrey Toobin's book about the Supreme Court The Nine. If I can find more than a half hour to read, I'm sure it will be very interesting.
I just finished THE BANCROFT STRATEGY, by Robert Ludlum, which is the fourth or fifth brand new Ludlum novel I've read in the last five years, which is pretty good considering the man died in March of 2001.

I'm now up to Stormy Weather by Carl Hiaasen. I'm about half way through listening to it. This one has Skink in it. I finished listening to Strip Tease also by Hiaasen and then had to watch the movie - even though I knew it had been panned. Boy! Why do they insist on changing endings!!!
I've read Stephen Colbert's I am America (and You Can Too!). I love Colbert.
Finished a book about the origin of word phrases called Heavens to Betsy. It was o.k. I was fascinated by the author's references to growing up in southern/central Ohio. Did a little research and discovered he was one of the Funks (as in Funk and Wagnall) and they originated from Springfield, OH.
Now reading Jan Karon's new book in her new Father Tim series. It's called {i}Home to Holly Springs[/i]. I'm not quite as involved with it as I was the Mitford series. Still, a nice read.
Also reading On Bear Mountain by Deborah Smith. This is one someone gave me and said, "I had to read this." I haven't felt exactly that way, but it is well-written.
I've been running up tabs at the libraries. I don't get one finished before it's due and I know it's requested by others, so I keep it until I finish. Bad, Linda! Bad! Bad!
funny stories from buddhist monk. great for taking yourself lightly when life's circumstances turn upside down. and so funny also! last year, i gave them out as gifts because i love the book!

I just finished a book by Alan Alda (yes, that Alan Alda) called Things I Overheard While Talking to Myself. I really like the way he writes. It doesn't hurt that we think alike.
I'm starting the book that will be Dayton-Springfield's Big Read this year (the entire cities read the same book and discussion groups are held at libraries and bookstores). It's called Funny in Farsi. It's by a woman who moved to the USA from Iran when she was seven. I've already read about her first day in kindergarden - and her mother who could not speak English accompanied her. It seems like it will be a good read.
I'm still working on the epic novel "Midnight's Children". The narrator's life parallels the early history of India, and it includes all manner of magic and lore and strange goings on...

I just finished Terry Pratchett's Making Money. Have I ever mentioned the love I have for Terry Pratchett? Such a hoot. The Librarian even makes an appearance. (maybe that's who I should be next year...heee hee)
I also read Madhur Jaffrey's Climbing The Mango Trees. Wonderful book. Absolutely fabulous.
i have not read it but heard about it. sandra lee who does the semi-homemade show on food network is coming out with her autobiography.
apparantly, she had a really tough child. her mom suffered from depression, so sandra had to cook for her sibs and that is how she learned to cook semi-homemade. she also suffered from abuse as a child for many years, ended up living with her grandma who taught her how to cook well. in high school, she ended getting her own apartment. anyway...tough upbringing for such a seemingly cheery person. i thought it was interesting. i think the book comes out this week sometime.

I just happened to find Ahab's Wife, while looking for another book. Most of us have read Moby Dick, and know of Captain Ahab's obsession with finding the great white whale. But what about those that were left on shore to wait for this man and his crew? That's Ahab's Wife, and the other people left waiting and wondering. It is a powerful book about women, and divinity. It's long, but it doesn't drag you through too much information and not enough substance. In my book, there is a section that is life a post script that rather brings you up to date. I usually don't pick books like this to read, but loved this one.
It's never too late to get it right.

Running with Scissors has to be the worst well-written book I've ever read. I'll save the bottom spot for one I read by a former Special Educator from Michigan who I hope didn't teach writing!
Even the books by David Pelzer (A Boy Called It, The Lost Child, A Man Named Dave) weren't as disgusting as this.
It has been a quick read however. I'm going to start a biography I have after this.
I'm also about to finish Skin Tight by Carl Hiaasen as my listen in the car book. Strip Tease is next.
I picked up some new-to-me mysteries at the library book sale a couple of weeks ago. They take place in medieval times and are written by Margaret Frazer.
I am in the midst of 4 different books right now. That is an unusual situation because I usually only read one at a time. However, I am not actively reading any of them. I have been doing a lot of knitting but I am almost of of yarn so I will probably go back to reading again.
