Lori just wanted to let you know I found the WATP basic package for only $20.48, including postage, on eBay. So mine are on the way. Can't wait to get started with them. Thanks again!
Way to go Max! As you know, I'm working on that myself.
I had a similar victory yesterday morning when I couldn't finish my english muffin. Instead of forcing down the last couple of bites, I offered it up to my husband who needs the extra calories ; )

Way to go on your pact with your husband Betty Jo! That's a great victory to celebrate. And good for you Lori for jumping in and getting started again. Sometimes the hardest thing is to take the first step.
All that said...I've been thinking lately about a conversation Denise and Bee were having before the holidays about the "full button" and how it works. That kept tugging at me because mine seemed "broken" for a long time.
I've been trying to eat more mindfully and slowly lately. And today I had a small victory for myself. Granted, it's just a start but I have to start somewhere.
My husband invited me out to lunch today. That's a big deal for me because I never leave my office during the day. We went to a nice little Italian place and I had a salad of beautiful field greens and dressing on the side. For the first time in my life I didn't dump the dressing on the salad and I only used barely half of it. To be honest with myself, usually I'd order extra and use it all.
When my meal arrived the portion was huge. Instead of one piece of chicken (which is what the description sounded like) there appeared to be at least three huge pieces in the mix with the vegetables. I ate slowly and enjoyed every bite, but I still have about 3/4ths of my lunch in the fridge for tomorrow and the next day if I want it.
Sorry this is so long but I knew the people gathered here would understand. Unlike my sisters or the people I work with who would think I'm crazy for having the "full button" problem in the first place.

Way to go Lori! What is the WATP DVD?
Hi bj,
WATP= Walk Away The Pounds, it is a series of exercise DVDs that use in home walking (you walk and march and kick, etc, in place) made by Leslie Sansone I have been using these DVDs since my journey first began in Sept. 2001. It is a GREAT low impact way to start and continue exercising.
Blessings,
Lori

Since last August when I almost passed out at the gym, I haven't been exercising regularly. My exercise has been very sporadic....when I gain a pound or two, I'll exercise for a few days to get back down and then I stop again.... I know, bad, bad, bad! Well, I have been feeling the affects of not exercising regularly lately....more prone to injury, ache-y lower back and knees, getting out of breath with mild exertion, etc. I also have gained a couple more pounds, and knew that I HAVE to get back to my regular healthy routines, and back to weightloss. I was going to start everything when the National Body Challenge starts on the 14th, but last night when I was going to bed I realized...why wait?!? SO, I got up this morning, grabbed a bottle of water and my WATP DVD and did the 1 mile Express Walk. Now it has been probably since mid-November since I last did ANYTHING remotely physical and I have to tell you, I was huffing and puffing through that video! (Very sad how fast you get out of shape!)
BUT I did it! I did the one mile, and tomorrow will get up and do it again! Just had to report.
Blessings,
Lori

I'm not at all sure I'm posting this in the right place but wanted to share a little progress from today.
Hubby and I have been working on changing our eating habits to healthier for about a week now. Today we were in a wonderful shop that has beautiful fruits and veggies. We were enjoying choosing some of them when an old habit raised its head. This shop has wonderful gourmet candy and other baked goodies too. We are both chocoholics and whenever we shop in this particular market we always grab a bag or two of something covered in chocolate and take it home with us. Well today I knew that wasn't going to happen. So I suggested that we each choose one or two small pieces of our favorite chocolate, eat it in the parking lot, taking none of it home with us. Each of us chose two small, .375 oz. Ghirardelli chocolate squares. We sat in the parking lot eating them very slowly and enjoying it immensely. We made a pact that we will no longer eat this type of goody unless visiting this particular store and it is over thirty miles from our home. We are only there about once a month.
I've always been an all or nothing person. When dieting I would never have considered eating or enjoying chocolate. But since reading KD's books I realize I was depriving myself and setting my self up for failure with my previous methods.
After returning home I was reading the Babystep101 thread someone graciously bumped up. I found this written by Denise: Resist it at the grocery store and you only have to resist it once. Bring it home and you have to resist it every hour of the day.
It made me feel so good that we had "resisted" our normal habit. Although we did have a small amount of chocolate, it was still a very big baby step of achievement for us!
I've lost two pounds since Thanksgiving!!! I've cut my calories down to between 1200-1300 per day and I am eating 5 small meals a day to help keep my blood sugar stable (I have low blood sugar). I'm supposed to be eating 6 small meals a day but I just can't seem to work that in.
Anywhoo, I'm feeling really great with the 5 small meals and THEY ARE BALANCED and NUTRICIOUS!! I am also entering my food info into fitday so I pretty confident that I am getting my daily requirements. AND as long as I am feeling good (even wake up feeling good), that is a very good sign.
Now I just need to go to the (ANOTHER) doctor about my hip/leg joint!!
Anywhoo, I feel like I am back in the saddle and I have a plan AND I have a good mental attitude. I'm even more proud that I am able to feel this way during winter and during these food ladden Holidays!!!!
I think that rewards are really personal because it's all about what motivates you. I have rewarded myself with a pedicure, lots of cd's over the last 18 mos., workout clothes and dvd's, candles, other clothes. Lots of ladies on the board use time for themselves as a reward but I'm remembering you are single so you may be like me and that isn't such an special treat.
The way I usually do it is looking at things a week at a time so maybe think about assigning a point value to each one and if you reach a certain point level, give yourself the reward. Most of yours look like you could earn a point a day so maybe if you got 35 out of 40 points, give yourself the reward. Try not to set yourself up for perfection...reward yourself for improvement not perfection.
