Glad to hear that overall, your labs look good!
I hope that watching your carb intake will work well for you.
Good luck!

Five days after returning from the cruise, I went to get my latest bloodwork done. I asked the doctor to do a broader range of tests this time instead of just cholesterol because I had changed my way of eating so drastically in the past year and I wanted to be sure everything was cool. I got my results this week.

My total and LDL (bad) cholesterol are up a bit, probably as a result of coming off of a cruise where I was eating a lot more beef and desserts than usual. It's not up enough to be of concern, but still a little disappointing because I'd worked SO hard to get it down to an all time low after last Christmas.

Every test (blood count, blood glucose, kidney and liver function, thyroid, etc.) was normal except for triglycerides which, while down dramatically from where they used to be, are just not down enough! The doctor says that lowering carbohydrates will help. I'm not gonna "go all Atkins" or anything, but I had already been thinking about trying to reduce carbs a bit just cuz my body/metabolism tend to be particularly sensitive to them (i.e., I gain weight ridiculously easily/quickly from carbs).

It's nice to know that things are going well "in there," at least in regard to bloodwork. Smiler

Well its the end of week three. I did not do as well this week as I have been in the past couple.

My first goal this week was to eat at least 2 meatless dinners this week. By the end of today, I will have done it. Bad news is one of those meals was a delivery cheese pizza.

My second goal was to get back into going to the gym. I have had a long tough battle with myself and the checkbook, and I have to say the checkbook won. Now that its summer, there is a lot Ic an do without hitting the gym, and we need every penny we can right now. My husband drives a lot for one ofhis jobs and gas prices are killing us.

Result from not getting there with my goals this week, here come those 2 pounds again to say "hi old friend"

My goals for this coming week are:

Prepare lunches for work the night before.
walk after work at least twice.

How I plan to really accomplish this:

I'll have to go empty my gym locker, so i'll keep those extra sneakers in my truck, so they are always there after work.

I will start using my control journal I slacked off the last couple of weeks) I have an evening routine on each page that includes making next days lunch and thawing dinner.

The five points have really been helping me. I tend to easily forget little things like drinking water. Its kept me on track.

I'll be doing it for quite some time.

Hi Laurie,
I know that you were frustrated with the two lb gain. Congrats on banishing it! I know that you have really been putting some extra effort in.

You posted: Tonight I've set aside to research and reread. I'll reevaluate how much of what i should be eating.

Did you see the thread on boosting metabolism. I thought that the article was really interesting. (It was sort of hard to read as I must have gotten about 90 pop up adds... but the article was worth the effort.)

I really want to thank you for sticking with me on the 5 point challenge thread. It has really helped me a lot. I almost seems dumb that something so simple could really help! - but it does! Thanks - enjoy your research. Let us know if you find some really good stuff!

Hi Denise,

Thanks for asking. I managed to lose the two pounds the week. I've had a really hard time this week, but i've managed to really stick to plan. I've kept a bag of carrots beside me to conquer stress eating.

I tried so hard to make it to the trail to walk this week. Have you ever had one of those weeks where it just seems impossible. I had the best of intentions last night. I changed at work and was ready to go. a customer came in and wanted my help (one of my regulars), that took up half an hour. Then I get into my car, to drive to the entrance of the trail, and something starts rattling in my car. I figure, Its on my way home I'll stop anyway, and we get a sudden downpour. Oh well another time. Was going to tonight, but had to go to a wake for one of dh's coworkers.

I did crunches all week, only missed water one day. Tonight I've set aside to research and reread. I'll reevaluate how much of what i should be eating.

Looks like I've made it through all of my goals for this week.

Laurie

Checking in for the 2nd week of May.

I can not believe that I have done the eliptical machine at 7am five times (M-F) this week.

Actually, I've exercised 13 days out of the last 16 days. I am seriously patting myself on the back. I got out of car today and I'm getting thighs and buns of steel. Who would have thought???

Was happy with my food this week (well could have done without the Nesle's Crunch Bar yesterday...). All in all - it was a good week.

Now to do it again next week! Smiler

Laurie,
How are you doing? Did you have a good week.

Cathy,
Congrats on the two+ lbs. Hang in there with the meds and AM sickness. I had to do heprin shots 3-4 times a day when I was preg. You just sort of do what you have to do. Still, I'm sending positive thoughts your way because I know that you really would like to get off the meds someday and control the diabetes with diet.

Progress with diabetes control:

Well the new med is still making me feeling morning sickness. I told my husband if this was what morning sickness was like, we'd never would have had kids. Anyway, I was a fortunate one, and didn't get sick at all, so this feeling is all new to me. AFter four days, my sugars are slowly coming down....I am still just beat, but, doing better about fighting the nausea. I pray everyday that this works, cause I know I wouldn't do the shots and someone would have to do them for me. I am such a weenie. Good news is I've lot another 2.2 pounds as of yesterday, I about did a dance at the scale. So if nothing else, I am starting down that loosing path again.

Here is how I did this week, my plan was
Week 1 -

Drink 64 oz water every day - I missed 2 days
do my crunches every morning - I did them every day!

This coming week I plan to do both the above and:

Reevaluate the number of exchanges I eat daily
walk during my break.

I'll let you know how I'm doing at the end of the week, thats the good news,.
The bad news i put on another 2 pounds. It doesn't sound like much, but it is so depressing, the harder I try, the less I seem to lose and the more I gain. But I'll stick with it and see where it leads me.

Well, the meds gave me a terrific headache...and aches in my knees like I've never had before. I don't know if it was the meds they just gave me, so I am taking myself off of them until I can talk to the doc on Monday. Some of the side effects are not too pleasant...but it is worth it if it works. If it's just something I have to live through, then so be it, until my system gets used to the stuff. But this was like the worst flu in the world. Please say some prayers for me...I am not patient about this kind of stuff, tend to get panicky very easily...I just want something that works and works well. So the dogs and I will be walking our legs off trying to get back in control today.

Checking in for the first week of May.

I've exercised 8 days out of the past 10. I think that this is some kind of record for me!

I'm going to stick to my schedule:

6:15am check email
6:30am walk dog for 25 mins
7:00am eliptical machine for 26 mins.

Thank you to all of the morning exercisers for the encouragement.

I've been pretty happy with my eating. The past two days have been stressful. Am looking forward to being "more on track".

Denise

Cathy,
I know that it is such a relief for you to get some answers. The waiting and ambiguity of not knowing is so stressful. GREAT NEWS!

Cathy, that is MARVELOUS news!!! I'm SO happy for you that you took action to find out what was up with your elevated blood sugars, that they discovered and are treating the infection, and that you're on new diabetic meds that will aid in your weight loss efforts. Now THAT's a bunch of good news!! Big Grin

Hugs.

I'm so glad that you got some answers today and that it's something easily treatable!

I remember that disgusting orange stuff - blech!

I don't know if this is the kind of progress we are thinking of, but, to me it's great progress.

I spend the day at the hospital drinking wonderfully a orange flavored sugar mixture, it's the same one that they give women who are pregnant for testing for gestational diabetes.
Six whole hours, and gallons of that stuff. I am six of orange anything! Anyway, my sugars had been whacked off the planet for about a week, and we had to find the reason. So I drank and peed the day away. Smiler I gave blood, enough for 6 pints, I swear Smiler., And what did we find out??????? Tatatada! I have a UTI and a sinus infection that are causing my sugars to go up, and up.... They did prescribe another
Diabetic med...most Type II's don't get by with just one...and it's been three years of trying...so I was due. And of course, two cow pills for the infections. I am thankful for this progress, I had my eyes on insulin shots and I know I wouldn't do that, I'd eat myself silly first. I had all kinds of tremendously horrible things going on, I usually do over react. I am thankful that it was ONLY these two things....progress is a great thing. AND the wonderful thing about the new D. med is that it helps promote weight loss....rather than slowly my system down, it will rev it up to use the food I do eat in a healthier manner.
Another form of progress.

Thank you all for your support through this, once again, you've proven to be the best friends in the world.

Now I can sleep and breathe again.
