Way to go Maddie! You did all sorts of things right when it would have been easy to say "but it's a special occasion". You are right, it won't happen all in a day and the baby step thing is really so much more doable! Hang in there!

I can't really speak to this because I'm at the other end of that weight loss spectrum. Congratulations! I know that there are several ladies on this board that are in maintenance though. You might want to post in the main board because I don't think this folder gets as much attention as that. I know others have mentioned this struggle.

I'm still alive and living and not hiding from anyone. I made it through the first two weeks of Dr. Phil's rapid start. This means that I can adds some carbs (not many) to my daily menu.

I have lost about 10 pounds in this time. I'm not sure if I will continue with Dr. Phil, but I gave myself a kick start.

I even went with my dh and son to lunch at a pizza buffet on Saturday. I started with lots of salad and then just picked and sampled about 5 small pieces of pizza - I didn't finish any. The scale still showed a drop the next day.

We have tried a long forgotten recipe for chicken on Monday and a new beef marinade today - both from Jane Brody's Good Food Cookbook.

Exercise can still be a problem - but I fit something in a couple of times a week.

At the moment I am involved in a mystery by my second favorite mystery writer (John Dunning) and the free month of concerts in Springfield, OH (Phil Dirt and the Dozers was last night - WOW!)

I'm trying to set a good example for my son by not spending so much time on the computer. Keeps me from being too sedantary, too.

Good luck Cobismom with the new adventure.

Oh! my blood pressure measured a reasonable 139/86 at the Kroger's pharmacy do-it-yourself. It's a start.

I just wanted to check in here to report I've lost 5 pounds over the last 2 weeks. I just started weighing myself weekly so I don't know how much more I might have lost in May. This is probably going to sound insane but when I saw another 3 pounds off in the last week I was sort of startled and a little concerned. Is it possible that I'm losing too fast?

I have to confess that one thing I am mortally afraid of in losing weight (and one reason I put it off for years) is that I might yo-yo and put not only what I lost back on but extra weight. I had been essentially the same weight for a number of years and I just figured better to be that much overweight than somehow manage to gain even more. Not really the right attitude I realize but it is driving my desire to not do this 'wrong'.

Would love to hear your thoughts...I would discount it to water weight but I've been eating better/exercising more all spring and then really started the concerted effort 6 weeks ago so I don't think this is just beginner's luck. Should I just rejoice and keep truckin? Wink

I forgot to post a little progress report from the weekend. You may recall that, early this year, I took the first aerobics class of my life at my gym. The first time, I took the class without the step or the weights. I got through the hour, but had to stop here and there and I don't think I did any other workout (weight or cardio) that day. The very next week, I took the same class again, but this time with the step AND hand weights. This time was bad. I felt horrible for two days and feared I had done something awful to my heart (I can only assume I got my heart rate up too high). This really scared me so I figured I better build up my endurance more before I tried again.

This past Saturday, after a few months of endurance-building on the elliptical and bike, I tried the same aerobics class again--this time with the step but no hand weights. Not only did I get through the hour feeling great, but I went on to do 30 minutes on the bike AND my lower body weight training afterwards (the class was at 9 a.m. and I didn't get up early enough to complete my weight training workout before the class).

I told the instructor after class (this guy is known for really tough but great workouts) that I'd taken some time off to build up my endurance but felt much better this time around. He told me I did great and was looking great too and to keep up the good work.

It was a great feeling of achievement and I think that this class will become a more regular part of my workout routine now that I can do it safely.

Woa! I knew that scale was lying yesterday! It was back up 8 today. That seems much more realistic. Not kicking myself. Not discourage. I didn't stray in eating and I found a friend to walk with me last night.

Today is day 3. Yesterday I stayed on track as far as menu:

B: 1 hb egg, 1 c Special K (can't wait until it's gone so I can by something with less sugar and more fiber), 1 banana, 1 c milk, and 1 c coffee

S: 1 pear (canned in own juice) - checked out the leftover applesauce and found an unexpected color then went for leftover cranberry sauce until I saw ingredient #2 is high fructose corn syrup)

L: large salad w/red leaf lettuce, red onion, 1/2 can tuna (water-packed), 1 asparagus spear, cuke, radish and 2 T raspberry vinaigrette dressing and a Iced Apricot Tea.

D: 4 oz beef (my husband cooked in the pressure cooker w/potatoes and carrots), left over canned zucchini & tomato (my favorite!), red leaf lettuce and tomato salad w/sprinke of red wine vinegar (won't do so much of that next time) and a diet.

S: yogurt

My son and I went to the store in the next town south to get some real veggies and fruit. Also bought some Tofu - he wants to try it.

I didn't do any dedicated exercise yesterday, but, I'm not kicking myself about it. (Felt I was getting tons of exercise climbing the stairs to use the facilities with all the liquids I drank.) I did two good days and will do something today.

Thought the scale was lying when I got on this morning - it showed a 13# loss already. I do realize that those of us who have a person to lose, will drop it faster, AND in the beginning a lot is water weight, but...WOW!.

I met KD on Saturday. I signed on here on Sunday. I walked 18 blocks last night. Today I started Dr. Phil's quick start:
B: 1 c (measured) each milk and special K (that doesn't have as much as fiber and more sugar than I thought, but it was what was available) 1 hb egg, 1 banana, and 1 c coffee.

S: pear - I stopped and bought it while I was visiting Dr's offices. I don't like pears, but thought I would make it last longer.

L: salad with red leaf lettuce, 1/2 can tuna (water packed), cuke, asparagus, radish, kohlrabi and 2 T lo Italian. 1 diet and 1 c apricot tea

S: salad w/red leaf lettuce, peas, last of frozen mixed veggies (califlower, carrots, broccoli), shredded cheese and salsa; diet and an orange (heaven knows how long that has been in the frig, but it was delish!)

Since my husband started on nights, he wasn't available for a walk. I don't walk distance by myself since my back surgery, so I got out the stationary bike. When I got on, I thought 30 minutes. Within the first minute I changed my goal to 5 minutes (first I've been on the bike since my back surgery 13 months ago). After 5 minutes, I tried for 10, then 15 and then stopped at 20. (I biked while I watched LOTR: The Two Towers)

I still have a yogurt or milk for a snack before I go to bed.

I hope you don't mind my bragging. I need a support group. (Oh, and I weighed in at 283 today). I wouldn't normally admit that, but since I want to make a good start...

I've been doing that (taking Dyazide less often) for a week and have had ZERO signs of edema in my ankles and I just took my BP and it is just below the normal range. YEEHAW!

Okay, too soon to celebrate JUST YET, but I must say I am pretty psyched and am really hoping this trend will continue. Big Grin

That's awesome news Sheri! I hope you continue to see good results!

Good for you for starting out with a new plan! Lots of folks would use the arm as excuse - good for you for planning ahead and finding ways to be healthy anyway!

Well its the end of May, and it wasn't a very good month. My measurements have stayed about the same. My weight has gone up to 269. Its going to be hard to get back on track, but I'm going to try. Here are my plans for June:

Food -
stock up on frozen veggies, make lots of slaws etc. that don't require a lot of chopping. Same thing for frozen fruits, they don't need much prep work and keep for a long time. (I can't chop or even push a shopping cart this month)

go back to preparing lunches every day for work. I already have a large package of popcorn in my locker to keep me out of the chips.

exercise_

start walking more, as long as I don't swing my arm while doing it, I'm fine. I am within walking distance from the doctors and the physical therapists office.

Do my exercises recomended by my doctor and physical therapist, if i do I should be in good shape by the end of the month.

Its not a lot, but its a good start. by the end of the month I should have full use of my right arm again. Big Grin

Laurie
