I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

I was just short of my October goal and have taken time off to catch things back up at work. Winter is an especially difficult time for me to get in exercise since I hate the snow and unfortunately live in Michigan this time of year. So I am planning ahead to make things work this year. My first mini goal is January 1st! The End goal is the First Day of Spring (3/20/06). I know that the holidays fly by quickly, but so do the extra calories if I don't watch them.

Here are my first set of goals that I will achieve!

1: Up the number of days that I take my lunch to work from 2 to 4 (5 if we haven't planned something department wise). This will help me stay on track with my continued weight loss.

2: Walk 5 days a week! I found out the local schools stay open for people to walk (Plus my brother-in-law is a wrestling coach so we can walk there other hours). I have ZERO excuses not to get some exercise in! If the weather is bad then I will do one of the DVD's or Video's that I have.

3: Up my veggies & fruits! I am getting them in, but I CAN do better!

4: I will attempt to learn to ski! Yes - I STRONGLY DISLIKE the snow but my husband is an avid skiier! I will try it 5 times throughout this winter before I seriously decide whether I like it or not. (This goal may extend past the Jan. 1 deadline).

My rewards:
Weekly - 1 new scrapbooking supply & 10.00 towards my vacation fund for June (Disney of course - I am addicted)

Monthly - A pedicure!

Anyone else can join me if they would like! I just need something to focus on to get through the cold months ahead!

That sounds like me, about a year ago! DH planned a long weekend ski trip and it was only my second effort. But we did want DS to get an early start on learning, so I "bucked up." Won't say I fell in love with the sport, but I'm willing to try it again this year, and that's an improvement!

I got tons of support from this board when I voiced my fears and anxiety about skiing. So be sure you let us know before you brave the mountains!

You've got the plan, now the follow through. I have full confidence in you that you'll have enough stash of $$ for your trip and a fanstastically healthy bod to go with it!

as someone who learned to ski because her husband was big into it I have some advice that you can take or leave

a) take lessons. Most ski areas have adult beginner classes

b) don't let you husband teach you. It's too close of a relationship to take the critism and imho, husbands are not trained ski instructors! The pros know how to explain it to you so that you understand. Give yourself at least 3 days in a row to get the hand of it

c) dress appropriately. I hate being cold. Learned to ski in Vermont on when it was 20 below. I had the right gear and wasn't cold at all

d) have fun with it.

If that doesn't work out, try snowshoeing. No skill required. Smiler (One or two cross country ski poles can be used as walking sticks.)

Sounds like a great set of goals. My goals:

  • Journal every day
  • Strength training at least 2 days a week, plus yoga
  • At least 3 quality cardio workouts each week

That's a good start for me, I think.

Sounds like a great plan Beth!

You go girl!
