New Years Eve - Help please

We're getting together with a group of couples at someone's house for NYE and I have to take an appetizer. I'm torn between taking something that I know is good for me (veggie tray) and something that I know isn't as good, but I'll have lots more people there to eat it.

What would you do? I thought about taking both something healthy and something not so good, but I'm just not sure.

Any suggestions for a healthy appetizer...my mind is drawing a blank.

Thanks,
Eryn

Thanks for everyone's input. I really appreciate it. I actually decided to do a variation on the tortilla rollups since I had a recipe somewhat similar and I haven't made it in a long time.

You take the cream cheese, but instead of salsa you add chopped green chilies and black olives to it with a little garlic salt. It's fast and easy and I can make it in the morning.

I hope everyone has a safe and happy New Years!!

Thanks,
Eryn

Kd's potstickers are really good too!

If you put "Cooking Thin" in the recipe search box instead of the word "dip" or "appetisers" you get KD's recipes.

Eryn, try one of KD's recipes for dip. I've made the beet dip from Getting Thin and Loving Food, along with the flat bread and it's usually a hit (once people get past the somewhat odd look of the beet dip). If you don't have the book, I think KD made two or three dips with the flatbread on one of her shows (Southern Sisters, maybe?) so you might be able to find the recipes on the Food Network web site (http://www.foodtv.com).

IMHO, good vs not good is a matter of portion size. Make something that you can be proud of.

Goal: Stop stress snacking.

That is my thinking, too.

Also, "Healthy" is not limited to carrot and celery sticks and non fat ranch dip (Yuck!!)

If you have time to do both... go for it!

Eryn,
If I had some decadent appetizer that I really had been thinking about or that I really enjoy, the strategy of making it for something like this so you can have your serving is a great one. I try to make sure I'm in a place where I really will limit myself to that serving though. However, if you think there will be that AND a whole bunch of other special treats that you'll really want to eat too I would be more inclined to go the veggie tray route. The third alternative is to try and find something on the healthier side but not quite so healthy as plain 'ole veggies and dip. You might look at the Cooking Light website.

I tend to steer towards something a bit healthier. Here are my biggest hits:

The favorites in our neighborhood are my tortilla roll ups. I get fun colored tortillas and the spread a mixture of light cream cheese and salsa in them. Roll them tightly and refrigerate for at least one hour. When they are still cold, slice into bite sized pieces. They're fairly healthy but more importantly, big crowd pleasers.

My other big "hit" is a hot crab dip (lightened up of course). I take a can of lump cramp, 1 package of light (or non fat) cream cheese, 1 T of soynaise, 1 T of parsley, 1/4 of a finely chopped onion, a dash of worchester sauce, a splash of lemon, and some pepper. Stir everything in a great big bowl until well mixed and then cook for 30 minutes at 350. Serve with crackers and veggies.
