It's the weekend, time to unwind a bit...but just a bit. Stick with your plan, get outside and enjoy the fresh air or rain, go for a walk just to see what's new in the neighborhood, play with your kids (if it applies) and eat something new and healthy. BUT, before you do all that, think about these healthy ideas, first, take action if necessary:

1. Have you had your yearly physical?
2. Have you done the eternal mammogram? (if it applies guys)
3. Do you check your breasts yourself every month, do you know how?
4. Have you had your blood sugars checked this year? Diabetes is something that sneaks up on you...don't forget this one.
5. Have you had your eyes checked this year?
6. Made that annual or semi annual dental appt.
7. How about for your family, eyes and teeth?
8. Did you give up smoking or even breathing that second hand smoke?
9. Are you still downing the gut eating diet sodas? Find something you can start to drink instead of soda.
10. Finally, did you hug someone you love today, did you tell yourself you love you?

Have a great weekend,don't stress things, enjoy them.

All current here, I'm due to go again in October

Not yet, a couple more years

good here too
4. Have you had your blood sugars checked this year? Diabetes is something that sneaks up on you...don't forget this one.
I get mine done in october when I see the doc.

5. Have you had your eyes checked this year?
January is when i am due to go again, I suggest asking them to check for macular Degeneration, espeially if it runs in your family. It can be treated if caught early on.
6. Made that annual or semi annual dental appt.
Have to plan this for August
7. How about for your family, eyes and teeth?
Dh is current on all, my kitty is also current with all his shots etc, even had his teeth cleaned a couple months ago

8. Did you give up smoking or even breathing that second hand smoke?
I live in a smoke free home!!!

9. Are you still downing the gut eating diet sodas? Find something you can start to drink instead of soda. I limit my soda to 3 servings a week, on of which is "real"

10. Finally, did you hug someone you love today, did you tell yourself you love you?
Dh left for work long before I woke up.. I'll have to get him when he gets home, tried to hug the cat, he now thinks I'm a freak Big Grin, and I gave myself my daily pep talk.

Not for a few years Frowner I know I need to go but need to get better insurance first($$)

Never had to but I think this year I have to start(i am 36 this year)

Nope, since I haven't had a physical for a while...but I should, diabetes runs in my family

I am going this Tuesday! Yea! I usually wear contacts but w/this pollen I can't and my glasses are SO old.

As a hygienist I have to insist on semi annual-do you know how much gunk grows in there in a year? Big Grin Yes, I go every six months because I can't stand my teeth being furry.

Yes, dd had eyes checked in January and teeth cleaned two weeks ago.

No longer smoke-used to, and as for second hand smoke I would have to hold my breath to avoid it since it seems to be everywhere. I don't mind it unless I am eating.

i usually buy a fridge pack of diet soda when I shop, I stopped myself and went and bought water bottles instead(I hate paying for water when i can get it right out of the tap but if I don't have bottles readily available I WILL end up with soda).

Yes, both my dogs, dd is still in bed so I didn't hug her yet

I don't always have a yearly physical per se, but I do see my primary care physician semi-annually to have my cholesterol (and some other tests) done and my BP checked. I also see my GYN and my endocrinologist annually.

My next mammo will be coming up in September.

If not every month, every other, and yes, I know how. We had a speaker at work years ago who had fake breasts with lumps in them and we got to not only learn how to do a breast self-exam but to know what a (bad) lump feels like.

Yup. I have a family history, so I rarely go more than a year without testing.

5. Have you had your eyes checked this year?

Yup. Just had my appointment with the opthamologist last month. My new glasses are on order.

6. Made that annual or semi annual dental appt.

Yep. My appointments are always made in advance.

N/A

I don't smoke. As for second-hand smoke, I don't know how one could "give up" breathing it, since it's in the air and it's pretty difficult to avoid. I mean, I can avoid going to bars, where there is a huge quantity of second-hand smoke, but I can't help being in an open area where someone is smoking. For example, today, on my way back to work from lunch, I was walking in the parking garage behind a guy who was smoking on the way back from his car to the elevator and I was right in the wake of his cigarette smoke. Was he SUPPOSED to be smoking that close to the elevator door? Nope. But he was.

I drink perhaps 2 sodas per month, and they are "regular." I can't stand diet soda.

10. Finally, did you hug someone you love today, did you tell yourself you love you?

The only people I have been around today were coworkers and I don't hug my coworkers. Unless perhaps when they're retiring or something.


Personal Healthy Habits Challenge - 10/1 to 12/31/08:
1. Exercise: Get back to consistently working out 3-5 X week.
2. Food: Get back to consistently preparing healthy lunches for the week with increased veg servings.
3. Behavior: Reduce intake of sweets.
