Whether you prefer establishing goals by the quarter, week, day or anywhere in between, feel free to use this thread to post your goals and/or discuss how you are doing in meeting them or what challenges you are facing in doing so.

I am currently setting a new list of goals each month toward a big vacation in March, but I am using this thread to do a weekly review of how I did in meeting the goals. This helps me keep my goals more present in my mind.

Please join in and keep track of your goals however you choose to do that!

Personal Healthy Habits Challenge - 10/1 to 12/31/08:
1. Exercise: Get back to consistently working out 3-5 X week.
2. Food: Get back to consistently preparing healthy lunches for the week with increased veg servings.
3. Behavior: Reduce intake of sweets.

January goals:
1. No more than 1 meal out per week.
2. Minimum 160 minutes of cardio per week.
3. Increase intensity of exercise at least 3 of 5 days per week.

My week in review:

I hate to mess up my streak of two weeks of all met goals, but I was dealing with being sick this week and that slowed me down.

1. Draw. I had lunch out on Friday. However, after fasting for blood tests on Tuesday morning, I was ravenous when I left the doctor's office and got a breakfast sandwich at McD's. The reason I'm giving myself a draw vs. not met is that I REALLY REALLY wanted hash browns with the sandwich (institutional memory from the "old days") and didn't get them so I'm giving myself "extra credit" for that as well as choosing cold skinless rotisserie chicken over hot Popeye's fried chicken at the office luncheon on Thursday.

2. Not met. Not even close. I only got in 3 days of exercise this week and only 1 of those was cardio. Total minutes this week = 45.

3. Met. I only exercised 3 days this week, but I put extra effort into all 3, so I'm giving myself a green on this.

I want to say Yay, too.

Plus, I forgot to post this... but I am in AWE that you (and Kat, and others, too!) have been keeping this thread going for weeks and weeks and WEEKS! I know that sticking to those goals (especially the eating out once a week) is going to pay off... Smiler

And I'm not beating myself up badly about the exercise and low veggie intake. Two years ago, I would be flogging myself for days about it. Now I'm noting it, I'm disappointed in myself about it, but I'm not dwelling on it nor telling myself what a worthless person I am because of it. It happened and now I'm moving on.

I wanted to post some accountability (both positive and negative) about my week.

I'm just getting over being sick for over a week and, because I had a doctor's appt. and wasn't feeling well on the day I would usually go grocery shopping and cook lunches, I didn't go. I figured it was a short week (due to the Monday holiday and my off day on Tuesday) and I could make do for two lunches from what I had at home. Bad decision.

I went all week with hardly a vegetable. The bag salad I had at home went south and, already feeling bad, I just wasn't going to take the chance of eating it (I could barely look at it). I overate at dinner out of anger and frustration Thursday night when I came home to find my bedroom ransacked because the contractors had installed the new windows sooner than I'd been told.

I went all week with exercising only ONCE so far, though I do intend to exercise today and tomorrow. I either wasn't feeling well enough or I overslept so much for work that I couldn't afford to add in the exercise time.

On the up side, there was a birthday party at work on Thursday that is usually a mid-afternoon cake and fruit thing...this time, it was a lunch thing. On the menu were PILES of HOT Popeye's fried chicken, 2 tiny COLD rotisserie chickens, some carrots and peppers, popcorn and sweet breads (e.g., banana bread).

Before my journey, fried chicken was a regular part of my diet--either Popeye's or KFC. Just the smell of the hot fried chicken as I approached the party area made me swoon. The cool thing is that there wasn't much of a doubt...like it didn't even take cajolling Little Sheri...to avoid eating the fried chicken. I just inherently knew I didn't want to eat the fried chicken. I went to the rotisserie and cut myself 2 slices of breast meat, grabbed a big bunch of baby carrots, a baby bell pepper and a little bit of popcorn. I stood there and ate my de-skinned rotisserie chicken and carrots while EVERYONE around me chowed down on fried chicken. It wasn't easy...but I was SO SO SO proud of myself. YAY SHERI!!!!! Big Grin

My week so far...
1. Eat more fruits and veggies. Have done better, but could still use improvement.

2. REST so I can get better. Yes, I have done this even with working this week. I have not been exercising...hoping that will help. Went to the doctor today and she says it will just take time to get over this.

3. Drink LOTS of fluids! I have done really well in this area this week!!!!

Kat

Goal:
Exercise at least 3 times per week.

Remember the positives.

Get the munchies under control!
