Congratulations! You've just won airfare, lodging, spending money, and guide service (if you want it) for a week to ANYWHERE in the world--for one. (To avoid any excuses, there will be maid/nanny service provided for your home and loved ones, if it's needed.)

Just you. Going anywhere. Where are you going? What are you doing?

Can you take a dream like this and put it into real life? For example--if you say you're going to Rome and shopping for shoes, can you find a great new Italian recipe to try and stop at Payless this week?

Challenge Goals:
*10 minutes of unplanned exercise five times a week
*Gym time twice a week
*Socialize at least once every two weeks.

I just saw Giada on the food network in Greece and would want to repeat her vacation!!!! It looked soooooo fabulous...especially where she stayed.

My all time favorite trip was Maui, so that would be my other choice.

Traveling alone doesn't sound so bad too me, since DH has NO desire and if I don't go alone then I will never go anywhere. I do hope the two of us can get back to Maui...he loved it. I've made plans for a vacation in a few weeks and he says he's not going, so it might be me on my own (his family will be going, but staying elsewhere).

Kat

Goal:
Exercise at least 3 times per week.

Remember the positives.

Get the munchies under control!

I don't know much about it but it might be a thought. The appealing thing to me about this Yosemite thing is that I really have little to no desire to tent camp and more importantly carry all the required 'stuff' with me and the Yosemite thing lets me avoid that. I know here on the CO Trail there are vendors who will essentially set up camp for you each night and provide food, etc. in the same fashion. I imagine there are groups that would do the same on the AT or portions of it. Either of those would be cool too.

Have you ever thought about hiking the AT (Appalachian Trail)--or rather a portion of it? I know it's not in your neck of the woods, but I also know you visit Atlanta on business and the bottom end of the trail starts down that way. I just finished reading Bill Bryson's "A Walk in the Woods" which is about his experience hiking the trail, so it was fresh in my mind. Smiler

3. Behavior: Reduce intake of sweets.

Right off the top of my head I would say I would go do this hut-to-hut hiking trip in Yosemite. Like others, traveling to another country alone does not sound very appealing by myself but definitely going on a hiking tour with a group without necessarily knowing anyone has its appeal. I probably whine less with people I didn't know.

This is the link to the trip I have been thinking about for 3 years. Smiler

Sheri - I tend to agree with you but a couple of years ago I tagged along with my dh on his business trip to Prague. I was alone for three days and I loved every minute of it! I had done homework ahead of time and had a cheat sheet of common questions along with food translations so I felt somewhat prepared. I loved the freedom to explore what I wanted, when I wanted and at my own pace. I was very nervous about dining alone but I took my travel journal with me and found some wonderful outdoor places where I could enjoy meals and write about what I had done up until that point.

I was able to get to a lot of places out of the touristy areas as I'm willing to walk for much longer distances than my dh and I saw tons of stuff that I would have missed had I been with someone else.

Maybe because I live with other people all the time, the solitude was very nice!

PS Another alternative if ever your friends can't or don't want to go with you to a specific destination is to do a walking tour of that country. My inlaws did some and LOVED them. They said that the groups were small, the tours based on ability levels and that there were lots of single people who wanted to travel but not be completely alone.

I agree Sheri. I have traveled alone, and I have traveled alone overseas. I can do it. It was enjoyable enough when I did it, but I much prefer to be with others.

I do from time to time want a break from DH and DS. (Nothing against them, I just need a break), but would want to do something with a friend or group of friends. In fact, one response I was thinking of giving was going to be "To a CT reunion for all of us".

I think particulary after being seperated from DH for 3 months, I don't want to go anywhere without him right now.

Every time I see this homework, I can't seem to focus in on ONE place I'd want to go, so I'm just going to stop trying. Smiler Some of the top places on my wish list:

1. Tahiti and/or other South Pacific islands in that region.

2. Back to Maui and/or Kauai in Hawaii.

3. A cruise to the Mediterranean which would visit several different countries.

IF I were going to go by myself, I would probably go back to Venezuela to visit my host family. I would love to go back there and DH isn't really keen on going to Venezuela. I'd also really love to go to Costa Rica, but I think DH wants to go there too.

OR I would go to a spa like Jill.

Very Cool!!

I turn 50 next January. That makes me eligible for the "Seniors" ski clinic... which I think I might do. Smiler

I go on vacation and go skiing quite often by myself... I wish dh liked to ski... but probabably not this life time. So I go by myself.Smiler

I'd like to go to England and Ireland sometime... but would want dh and ds to come with me.

I'd like to go to Scandinavia with my mom and sister.

(Amy, you may want to look into special-needs days/weekends at the Orlando Disney parks. I know at least once when we've been there, the park was full of differently-abled kids of all kinds, with extra staff on hand. And there's lots to do other than spends tons of time in the parks, especially with the multi-day/multi-park passes they have now.)

I'm going to Turkey. It's close enough to experience the culture I have to read and learn about every day, but largely out of harm's way, with a few exceptions. I want to see Istanbul, the Aegean Sea, the Black Sea, and the Mediterrean. I want to taste the coffee that I hear a lot of my co-workers talk about, and see the architecture. (If I can, I'm totally taking a day trip to Athens!)

I have a Turkish cookbook, but I never think to use it--I'm going to make it a point to make something from it this week.

My flight leaves today-I am going to a spa which is located on the most beautiful beach in the world. (This place is fictitious right now but I'm sure there is somewhere out there that would fit the description!).

I will spend my days being pampered in the spa-pedicures, massages, facials, etc. Spend a good amount of time on the beach, just listening to the waves crash and reading a great book.

It would be all about relaxation for me.

Jill

Summer Challenge Goals:
1) Walk 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week
2) Plan weekly menus

I've got my hiking boots out, and my back pack, I am going to the mountains, and I am going to commune with the eagles. No venison or bear recipes for me, I'll be eating well, won't sleep in a tent, will come down to the lodge in Yellowstone and stay there. They have a wonderful trout dish, that comes straight out of the streams in the area. Gotta run, I think I hear the plane leaving now.

It's never too late to get it right.

OK- all i want to do is go to CA to be with some online girlfriends that I have. There are about 6 of us that are moms of autistic kids. I am not 'officially' doing a certain therapy for our son w/ a paid consultant so I can't go to the conference...but i could go and play...but i just can't. So I guess my dream has to do w/ being w/ folks more than the actual destination. I HATE HATE HATE travel. I used to travel weekly in my previous life...i have gotten on a plane 1 time in the last 6 years because i HAD to... so this fantasy involved a benefactor that would give us a private plane.

the other dream would be to go to Disney World with the kiddo....but I would end up on GMA w/ my son making a scene on the plane. so again-that private jet would come in handy.....I AM working toward this goal at least in my mind..to do a disney cruise in a few years. I have heard that is a bit more 'low key' than spending tons of time at the park.

Egypt! I'd fly first class, stay at a 5 star hotel and be pampered while visiting a country I've been dying to see all my life.

I want to start in Cairo and then cruise down the Nile and see all the sites, major and minor that I studied in archeology while at college.

I want to shop the bazaars, try all the local foods, visit the Cairo museum, ride camels, go to the beach, etc...

This is my choice over Greece (also very, very high on my list) because I've been promised Greece for my 40th b-day so I'll be getting there. Dh has no desire to go to Egypt and I would never spend that kind of money to go on vacation without him.
