CMT is starting a new show called "Giants" and Reba is the first singer to be honored. It is on CMT Saturday night 11-18-06 at 8pm eastern. Dd and I really love her music and we had the pleasure of actually meeting her once and she is truly a wonderful person. Her and her husband were married on dd's birthday. She wrote the song I posted on one of the recent homework threads and she also wrote "I'll Be" which I think should be KD's theme song. Maybe they will do those songs on the show tomorrow.

NASHVILLE – August 16, 2006 – Reba McEntire has been the leading lady of country music for over 20 years and now, for one special night, the stars of music, film and television will pay tribute to their favorite redhead in the new special CMT GIANTS, premiering Saturday, November 18. The two-hour special will be taped in front of a live audience at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood and will feature performances by such artists as Faith Hill, Trisha Yearwood, Kelly Clarkson, Martina McBride, Brooks & Dunn, Jennifer Nettles and LeAnn Rimes. Additional artists will be announced at a later date.
In CMT GIANTS, McEnt ire will be honored for her illustrious career, which includes 33 No. 1 hits, 29 albums, 15 American Music Awards, 12 Academy of Country Music Awards, seven Country Music Association Awards, two Grammy’s and the CMT Johnny Cash Visionary Award. CMT GIANTS will feature musical superstars singing some of Reba’s biggest hits and a special performance by the honoree herself.
“Reba is the ultimate choice for us to honor as the very first 'CMT Giant',†says Sarah Brock, vice president, production, music and events, CMT. “Reba is the real deal; talented, hardworking, not one afraid to take risks, but always remaining true to herself. Reba's success as an artist, an entertainer and a businesswoman is surpassed only by her devotion to her family and friends. She represents the best of country music.'â€
Having held the title of Top Female Vocalist and Entertainer of the Year and drawing in millions of fans through her music, television show and clothing line, Reba is the ultimate “Giant†in everything she does. She was the first country female artist to sell five million copies of one album since Patsy Cline and has collectively sold over 49 million albums. From “Can’t Even Get the Blues†in 1982 to “Somebody†in 2004, Reba McEntire has been delivering hit songs for many years. Her music has become a soundtrack for the human experience with such songs as “You Lie,†“Somebody Should Leave†and “Rumor Has Itâ€; she’s inspired others with “I’m A Survivor†and “How Was I To Knowâ€; and broke hearts with “The Greatest Man I Never Knew†and “And Still.†In a career that has expanded beyond music, McEntire is also a multiple award winner in the acting arena. Her critically-acclaimed Broadway debut in 2001’s “Annie Get Your Gun†was awarded both the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Awards and her self-titled TV show, “Reba,†landed her a Golden Globe nomination and a People’s Choice Award.

Originally posted by D in St Pete: I really enjoyed it! I think Kelly Clarkson is incredibly under-rated by a lot of people, and she was adorable. Dolly Parton is one of the few people I'd honestly label as an inspiration, and while everyone else was great, they all sounded like they were singing Reba's version of the songs (not that that's bad, I love me some Reba!)...Dolly sounded like she was singing a song that Reba wrote, interpreted for her voice and style. I wonder if they'll make any of those available on iTunes.
And I got a little giddy seeing Reba's Ranch House...my sorority in college did volunteer work there!
It has been a long day here & I am just now getting around to reading your post.
When dd was little (she is 25 now) she was crazy about Dolly (still is) and when she was 8 or 9 we were able to go to Dollywood the weekend Dolly was there giving concerts. Reba was her special guest that weekend & dd has loved her ever since.
Yes, the artists singing were doing Reba's songs. Dolly made some changes to the one she sang. Those songs should already be available on iTunes but with Reba singing. They did not give the whole story about the plane crash that killed her band. They were in two planes that night; Reba & Narvel were supposed to have been in that plane, not the band. It was the larger of the two planes and the band members were crowded in the smaller plane. Reba decided they should switch planes so the band would have more room and be more comfortable on the flight back to Nashville. It crashed on takeoff. Her brother Pake has a Christmas song they play around here every year. It is called "Santa, are you coming to Atlanta?" Watch your TV schedule during the Christmas Holidays for her TV Movie "The Secret of Giving".

Owww! this show is so great. It is even better than I was expecting it to be.
She turned them down twice but finally accepted the third time they asked. She said she felt like there were others who deserved to be the first CMT Giant honored.

I don't generally watch sit-coms but really like her's. It is funny and touching at the same time and deals with problems ordinary familys have. She was on the radio here this morning and says they are going into season 6. She puts on a fabulous show. We have been to a lot of them. We even went from Atlanta to Greenville one year because she was not doing a show in Atlanta.
She contributes to lots of charitys including a reading program for children but you rarely hear about it.

I love her show, Reba, which is on the CW network, I think, on Fridays(they might have changed the day to Sunday, not sure), it is very funny. I also love her music. I am looking forward to seeing this CMT show about her. DD and I are going to see Martina McBride's Joy of Christmas show here in Reading on 12/16. I've seen it before, and she is an amazing performer. DD and I went to one of her concerts earlier this year and we had a blast. Martina's most recent CD was remakes of the old Nashville classics and she performed them at the show. I am so looking forward to her Christmas show. I've never seen Reba, but she seems like she would also put on a great show and she really seems to be a genuinely nice person.
