Hello, this is my first post to the site.
This weekend I am going to be at a sci-fi convention surrounded by fatty snacks, and trapped doing henna all weekend. What would you recommend that I stock my cooler with to last out the weekend? Sci-fi fans in general are not noted for thier svelte appearances, and I don't want to be featured in the photo spreads with a chicken wing jammed in my face...sigh....
any ideas here would be appreciated (bear in mind I have no access to refrigeration).
Thanks. Smiler

Thanks!
I had forgotten about the peanut butter...(which serves double duty since I recently had oral surgery and am still a little tender). The hummus is no problem (I run a hospitality suite as well and hummus and baba ghanoujj are staples). Pita bread is also readily available.thanks for your suggestions, My brain had frozen. Now if I can just keep away from the baklava, cookies, brownies and muffins. everything should be fine.
Thanks again!

Balance or Luna bars (basically meal-replacement bars). . .and if they're in a chocolatey flavor, you might be less inclined to chase down any desserty things there.

A box of a cereal you're okay with eating straight out of the box--my boyfriend keeps a box of mini shredded wheat (the iced kind) at his desk at work for grabbing & snacking.

Fresh fruit (pears, apples, oranges, tomatoes) that won't be worse for wear at being room temperature.

Peanut butter & crackers or bread.

If you've got time, some of kd's granola.

I'd say if there's something in particular that you really like, maybe see if you can split it with someone else in your booth--meaning, if having burgers around you all weekend will mean all you can think about is how much you want a burger, then get one and split it.

And have fun!

Hi Shimmy, and welcome!!
Some things you can store in a cooler (with a cool pack in it):
  • Turkey sandwich on whole wheat, no mayo, lots of lettuce and tomato
  • Luna bars
  • Pita chips or flatbread & hummus
  • Nanners, tangerines, apples, pears
  • Baby carrots
  • Celery & peanut butter
  • Salad topped with sliced chicken breast and some cheese crumbles
Have fun and make lotsa bank!

Welcome to you!
Great plan to take a cooler with you. As for snacks for bring - you could do lots of raw veggies with hummus, a tortilla wrap with some kind of protein, fresh fruit, pretzles, and be sure to pack plenty of water.
Good luck to you as it sounds like temptations will be lurking around every corner ; )
