Well, we are 2 weeks from Christmas and in the middle of Hanukkah! It's all right upon us!!! How are we all doing on our goals to lose (or at least not gain) weight over the holidays? Do we need to adjust the plans for the next two weeks (and three if we are counting New Year's)?
Give us an update, let us know your successes and where you need to adjust!

I lost a couple of pounds over the past two weeks - which is good. However, I was letting myself slip this week. I need to remember every day to stay on track. I'm getting my Christmas menu together (thanks to many suggestions from the board!). My biggest issue is (as always) exercise and getting to the gym. SO, I'm going to make more of an effort to get to the gym and since it needs it, clean the house with more effort!

At this point, I'm more concerned about not gaining than I am losing. As of last week, I was down a pound and 1/2. YEAH! But, this week has just gotten away from me stress and schedule wise. I'm cruising way past overtired, which is making things worse. I'm at the point where I just don't care what I'm eating because I am so tired. Eeker

Solutions are being attempted as we speak. SmilerI've been pretty good during the day, but my evening snack combined with dinner (my trouble spots) has been a problem. My exercise is good. Hopefully everything will balance out.

I just need to buckle down and cut down on what I'm eating for dinner. Last night was a taco salad (KD's) and some cookie dough. (You can't expect me to bake cookies for a party and not sample the dough, do you?!? Big Grin I like raw cookie dough almost as much as I like cheesecake!)

Join the club, Susan! I've been doing that bouncy-bouncy-up-and-down thing on the scale, too. Frowner

My holiday resolutions are slipping! I need to regroup. I'm facing a challenging two days, and so far, not doing so well. I knew this tough period was looming and I tried to save up my calories, but with mixed success.

Didn't exercise this morning because my poor dh is sick and couldn't sleep so he camped out on the couch to watch TV in the middle of the night. Didn't have the heart to wake him up at 5 so I could pop in a workout video and it was too early in the morning to come up with an alternative.

Just came from my office holiday lunch. I managed to leave behind truffle-sized bites of my chicken entree and chocolate cake. But it was still way more than I planned to eat.

Tonight is a fancy restaurant dinner with my in-laws. Planning to skip the wine and maybe just order an appetizer as my entree.

Tomorrow I have rowing practice (the last before we take a break for the holidays) so I will get some exercise. Then I'm taking my ds to a birthday party -- that means pizza and more cake! I'm going to eat a healthy breakfast before I go and drink the bottled water that's usually available for the parents.

I've bounced back and forth between a two-pound loss and a two-pound gain since November 1. Right now I'm on the up side.

Not sure where I'm going with all these excuses, justifications, and promises -- just needing to feel accountable, I guess. Thanks.

It must be doable... because all those people in the nat'l weight loss registry have done it or are doing it.

I like this theory! Actually I've read something similar to this in my nutrition text about your body's "set point" - the weight your body is comfortable at. All my reading says that while it's hard to re-set your "set point", it is doable. Maybe that's finally happened to me??? I don't know but I would love to think so.

It certainly does seem that one meal with more calories per week does not make an impact on the scale which it certainly used to. It is also possible that I've become less sensitive to water retention.

Perfect day to ask this question - I just came from dh's holiday luncheon.

I had only oatmeal for breakfast and then allowed myself one piece of the delicious looking chocolate cake.

My weight has has stayed about the same yet inching downward.

Bee congrats on maintaining - not always an easy thing to do.

I am on plan and maintaining my weight. I am still at the high end or my goal range, but am feeling much bettera bout it since I have started to work out harder and more regularly. The weight trainning seems to be helping me look and feel leaner. I have been living in yoga pants and sweats. This weekend I will put on some "real" pants and see if the waist fit is better.

Mel, I was struck with your noticing that this is an everyday thing. We have to recommitted everyday. (I often do so man times throughout the day.) I have to stay on top of this. It is not over. Today I like that. I get to see all of you everyday, I get to eat great food, I feel good, I get to see friends at exercise class and I am more energetic and happier.

Sheri and I are fighting the two pounds... and you seem to have passed some maint. milestone!

Talk about frustrating! I came home from my long Thanksgiving weekend in Delaware DOWN in weight and THEN gained weight AFTER Thanksgiving (and after I left the leftovers behind in Delaware, so it wasn't that). GRRRR!

On Monday of this week, I was the highest weight I've been since around June. VERY depressing, especially considering I had not only not lost weight since August, but had had small gains in late October.

As of today, I am down almost 2 pounds from Monday's weight. Now, I RARELY lose REAL weight that fast, so I can only assume that some of it must have been water weight. I seem to be even more sodium-sensitive than I was before...have noticed feeling light-headed after eating saltier food. As a result, just this week went back to taking my Dyazide 7 days a week...this may well be what's helping.

I feel like I'm going backwards but if I have to go backwards to go forwards, then I'll do it!

Personal Healthy Habits Challenge - 10/1 to 12/31/08:
1. Exercise: Get back to consistently working out 3-5 X week.
2. Food: Get back to consistently preparing healthy lunches for the week with increased veg servings.
3. Behavior: Reduce intake of sweets.

I am doing well, surprisingly. I have made plans and pretty much stuck to them. I need to have my DH traded in, though. Usually in the AM when he is off we have muffins and/or bagel for breakfast with juice and coffee. This AM he stopped at the bakery and bought carmel rolls. GRRRRR. Put mine in the freezer for someone else and reminded him, that this isn't heatlhy food, let alone diabetic food. Thanks, but no thanks.
I have lost 3 lbs since Thanksgiving, and don't plan on quitting yet. My goal was to stay even or not gain more than 1....I think I'm on the right road here.

It's never too late to get it right.

I've been doing really well since early October with my weight. I'm comfortably at the low end of my maintenance weight and really have had no fluctuations since then. I'm not sure what happened but this is the longest I've gone without gaining weight on the weekends only to work super hard to lose it during the week to repeat the cycle. We're still going out on occasion and to parties but things seem to be more stable.

I am only cooking x-mas eve dinner at our house and I have a great light fish menu planned with veggie sauces that I'll make with the new juicer (it arrived 2 days ago and I love it).

My parents will go all out on x-mas day but I'll watch my portions, go heavy on the veggies and only have one glass of wine.

At this point, I've managed to avoid the hard events - we had invitations to two dessert parties which would have been torture for me but we couldn't make either one. As far as I know, other than my dh's work party tomorrow (which is brunch) there shouldn't be that many more holiday temptations left.

All my appts are made at the gym's day care so I'm all set with my exercise schedule as well.

The bad news is that I am up 2 lbs since Nov. 16 (the start of the Lean Plate Holiday Challenge).

The (sort of) good news is that I gained it the week before Thanksgiving and have not gained any more since Thanksgiving.

And other good news is that on track food wise since Thanksgiving and have been on track exercise wise this week.

I've been to two holiday dinners and I'm very pleased with how I ate at both of them. I split a dinner with a friend at one restaurant and did well at a potluck this week.

Beginning Dec. 16th... I need a SUPER DOOPER plan!

12/16 (family in town - restaurant?)
12/17 (my side of the family xmas dinner)
12/18 (memorial for my aunt in a Italian Restaurant)
12/19 (dinner at brother in laws house)
12/21-24 (go to mil's - more restaurants. Candy bowls. Bowls of nuts, chips and dip. )
12/24 (Xmas eve - at mil's? at home? don't know yet...)
12/25 (Xmas AM)
12/31 (New Year's eve - Mexican food with my sister's family?)
1/1 HOME FREE!!! We have soup for dinner.
1/2 My birthday. Another home/clean meal, as we are so sick of eating out - we have dinner at home and get a single serving of dessert from a bakery and split it 3 ways.

I'm not REAL good at long term plans, so for this weekend and next week... I will continue to exercise and stay on plan food wise!

I'm pleased so far. Weighed in today and I am holding steady. I have been keeping up with my exercise very regularly and even had some success adding back my crunches. The next 2 weeks will be increasingly difficult food wise but I am just going to keep chanting my moderation mantra. I am actually 6 lbs ahead of where I thought I'd be at this point so I'll be very happy if I make it through holding my weight without gain. I'll even be happy (just not very) if I only gain a pound or 2 but I try not to think that very often. Smiler
