Eva Louigoria was on THE VIEW on Monday or Tuesday. They were talking about last weekend's program. Did any one see it? Do you remember her trying to get into the blue dress for the reunion with her modeling friends, and telling her seamstress that she had to be a 00 not a 0? Well, on the show, Joy Barr asked her what size she really was, and she is a 00....OMG! I didn't think clothes went that small unless you were a new born. Holy Cow! I was floored

I couldn't agree more!! I just saw Kelly Ripa on TV this morning (I don't normally watch it, but my mom told me a chef was making Japanese food). She looks like a scrawny little boy, and her head appears hugely oversized by comparison. When did they all start trying to out-skinny each other? It is tragic because young girls emulate them.

The sizing has changed drastically. When I was in my 20's (the 70's) and weighed 125-130# I could not fit into a size 12 (too small). And I'm 5'1" or so. As far as Hollywood is concerned, these women are underweight and unhealthy. I'm sure they are thinner in person than they look on the screen. I hate that promoted as an ideal.
Maybe in their world a 0 is a size 4 in our world. Who knows? You can put a size 12 on an 18 dress and make it work and believable for someone who wants to believe it. I'll never get there, but if I could have her hair and wonderful smile, I'd take it. We all relish after those things we won't have. I am just trying to get to a 16 --- a 00 is more than I can comprehend.
which reminds me, my WW weigh in is in 30 minutes, better get going here. It's the last one before Thanksgiving.

The woman weighs 112 pounds soaking weight, that was the question that Starr asked her... They make size 00's in stores that I don't shop in, but I think it's in the kiddie department. Ya gotta love her though, she is genuine, honest and open about her life, beats some of the trumpedup starts in Hollywood.

I am 5 feet tall exactly. When I was in my early 20's, I was 103 pounds. I was a comfortable size 3. Everywhere I went, even as short as I am, people asked if I was ill. People thought I was sick. My collar bones were prominent and I did not look well. I am not sure how tall she is, but since the camera is supposed to put on some pounds, I would imagine that in real life she is too thin.
There is that Hollywood trend again. Messages of skinny are everywhere and she is right up there with Kate Hudson, the Olsen sisters and the rest of the Hollywood actresses who think they have to out thin eachother. I say.....Let them eat Cake!!! For a 12 year old girl 100 pounds and a size zero might be ok. For a woman it is not only not ok, but not practical or healthy!

I think that even if I dropped to 100 (and that would put me WAY off the charts as far as the healthy WW chart goes) it would not be the same as when I was 12 .
I was a petite girl/young lady, and I NEVER wore a size 0 All through college, and when I got married and until I had my first baby I weighed 115 pounds and was a size 3/4 to a 5/6 depending on the things. I don't think that they even had size 0 back then....I remember some of the really expensive brands (like Liz Claiborne, Karen Kane, Ann Taylor, and a few others having size 2, but what college student/newlywed can afford a $50 tshirt! or $90 skirt I was lucky to spend $5 on a tshirt and $9 on a skirt back then In all honesty, I really do believe that the sizing has changed, because when I was growing up my mom wore a size 14-16 and she was MUCH larger than I am now (she weighed 190-200 pounds) and I am NO WHERE near that at the same height and at my highest weight I wore a size 14 (my highest weight was 165), I'm now in a size 10 to 12.
Blessings,
Lori

My 12 year old daughter that is my height (5'2") and weighs right around 100 pounds wears a size 0 comfortably. Size 2s are just a little big in the waist. My daughter has a very nice shape, has nice round hips, and doesn't look anorexic....she looks very healthy. But she does wear a size 0 when we can find them...they are hard to find!
Blessings,
Lori

I have some Japanese friends; some of them are so small, they can't even shop in the adult section here in America; they have to shop in the children's section. They are just built incredibly small, especially through the torso, and don't look anorexic or anything.
Also it is true that sizes aren't what they used to be. They make them larger so we don't feel bad about what size we wear! We've heard that Marilyn Monroe was a size 14; but if you compare it to today's measurements it's something like a size 8!
My lowest weight was 103 lbs. at 5'3". As I recall I was a size 5. That was back in 1974 when I was 18. Being a David Bowie fan, I thought I had to be that thin; it was torturous! Looking at pictures of myself then I look really thin.
P.S. I agree, Jennifer Aniston looks way too thin these days. P.P.S. I may be weird but I've never seen Desperate Housewives. This message has been edited. Last edited by: synesthesiac,

But when I was 25 and got divorced... I went down to 100 lbs (and I normally weighed about 105) and I still fit in size 4 (which might be a 2 now...) and I'm 5'2".

I am 4'6" and, when I was 19, I weighed 94 pounds. At that weight, I was between a size 5 and a size 7, depending on brand/store. I get what you're saying about taller vs. shorter women, but a size 0 still seems REALLY tiny. Of course, sizes now aren't what they were 30+ years ago when I was 19. So who knows what size I would have been if I weighed 94 pounds under the current sizes.

When I was in my early to mid-twenties, I probably would have been a 0 or 00 if they had made clothes that size then. My mom had to make my clothes, because store bought women's clothes were too big and girls size 14s weren't proportionally correct. At that time, I wasn't concentrating on losing weight, I ate pretty well, and I exercised, but not an outrageous amount. I just lost that much weight, and I don't even really know how (BOY, would I like to know now!)
I am very short though. So, even though I was probably a little too thin then, I wasn't sickly thin.

What is especially sad is that these women feel SO much pressure to be unusually (unheathily) thin because "the camera adds 10 (or more) pounds." From what I read, there is a lot of competition out there to be one of the thinnest.
What I really find telling is when you see these women on the red carpet at an awards show in the middle of the afternoon and you get to see more what they really look like. Most of them have arms that I could probably encircle with my little tiny hands. I saw a picture of Calista Flockhart once on the red carpet...and it was sort of a 3/4 side/back shot. She looked like a concentration camp survivor. ICK. I've seen Nicole Richie interviewed a lot lately about her weight loss. She's about ready to disappear. She was considered "chunky" before (by Hollywood standards). I've also heard Tracey Gold (formerly of Growing Pains) and other actresses talk about how they were forced and harassed to lose weight or they'd get cut or lose salary.
It's insane. Sure, their lives look glamorous, but it can't be easy to keep looking like that. Not to even mention the face work these women have done to keep looking young. Yikes. Some of them could easily stand in for the Halloween scarecrow between the Botox injections and having too much skin cut off.

This is the kind of thing that is creating an increase in eating disorders among young women and younger girls. They see these actresses who are size0, or 00 and they think that is attainable and that it is normal. I would love to know what these actresses eat and how many hrs they are in the gym. I saw a pic of Jennifer Aniston today, it was the cover of a magazine, if you covered her head and the almost exposed breast her body is that of a scrawny 12 year old boy-not attractive at all. I would rather be where I am right now than to have to eat next to nothing and work out 10 hrs a day to be a 00. Jill
I have no specific goal(s) right now. I am trying to find the spiritual side of myself that I lost somewhere along the way.
