If he doesn't qualify for the free Windows 7 upgrade:
"Finally, as a way of saying thank you to our loyal Windows customers, we are excited to introduce a special time limited offer! We will offer people in select markets the opportunity to pre-order Windows 7 at a more than 50% discount. In the US, this will mean you can pre-order Windows 7 Home Premium for USD $49.99 or Windows 7 Professional for USD $99.99. You can take advantage of this special offer online via select retail partners such as Best Buy or Amazon, or the online Microsoft Store (in participating markets)."

I have no real complaints about Vista SP1, but probably won't be able to resist upgrading to The Latest Thing. Windows 7 certainly has been getting great reviews in the computer press.

FYI:
"Microsoft confirmed on Tuesday that it is planning for Windows 7 to hit retail shelves and start showing up on new PCs on October 22."
"The software maker also confirmed, without giving details, that it plans to offer some sort of "technology guarantee" giving those who buy Vista machines close to the Windows 7 launch a free or discounted copy of the new operating system... The tech guarantee program is not beginning immediately, but Microsoft did raise the possibility it will offer some sort of lower-cost upgrade to those who are already using Windows Vista."
I have been using Vista SP1 Preinstalled every day since last December, and still have no real complaints. That said, the computer media say that Win7 is even better.
Sandy, I am typing this on my Macbook! I had an iBook, which i spilled something on the keyboard and fried and have had my Macbook since November-I love it!!

Goal for next 6 weeks:
Go to the gym 3x/week for a minimum of 45 minutes each time
I'm also a born-again Apple fan this week. I washed and dried my iPod shuffle with the laundry. It still works just fine, which I think might be a bonafide miracle.

OH! MY! GOSH! ALLI! It must have been dry cleaning. Anything electronic is the natural enemy of liquid. You are so fortunate. Can I touch your hand?

Just wondering if others use a Mac. If so I hope to get some pointers.
Like Linda, I'm a long term Mac user. Once you've turned Mac, you'll never go back
