Grist Magazine (an online environmentalist rag) is doing a series right now on poverty and environmental issues. Today's report is on something we've discussed here often: that bad food is cheap, and healthy food bleeds your wallet dry. they explain the problem pretty well, and at the end point out some possible directions for solving it. I thought some of you might like to read this, as it sheds some light on how our government subsidies serve to give us $1 Ding Dongs rather than $1 salads:
Thanks for posting the article - food for thought.
I dunno. I think the problem is way more complicated than cheap corn syrup, etc.
In addition, here in the Midwest, it's kind of hard to buy locally grown produce in the winter. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Sheltieguy,
I started reading this yesterday and was able to finish it just now. Interesting article, sad though. There is HFCS in many more products than I think people realize, it is not just in soft drinks. Reading labels is key to avoiding it but unfortunately I think a large part of our country is forced to read the price label, not the nutrition labels. Good article, thanks for posting! Jill
I have no specific goal(s) right now. I am trying to find the spiritual side of myself that I lost somewhere along the way.
