So today is my date with my dh at Flemings. My first restaurant outing since being back on the wagon. I have a plan and need to stick to it. I will report back tomorrow on how today went.....

Plan for the day:
Exercise: It was 38 degrees and raining when I woke up this morning so I'm going to go for a run after I come back from volunteering at Cori's school. The weather is supposed to clear as the day goes on so it should be OK. Plan B is to get on the cross country skiier if the rain hangs on.

B: flax seed english muffin w/1 T of cream cheese

L: 1 1/1 oz of chicken with spinach and onion on a ww tortilla and a small side salad

S: 1/2 c of granola and an apple

D: I scoped out the menu - I'm doing a wine tasting (3, 2 oz pours so that will be 1 1/2 glasses of wine). For dinner I'm having the appetizer sized seared ahi tuna and steamed veggies. I'm not planning on dessert tonight as we have a football party tomorrow so I'll need some extra calories for that.
Plus, the desserts are good but not over the top, knock my socks off.

For the first time in a long while, I'm really less focused on the food and just enjoying my dh's company and relaxing over a nice meal that I didn't have to cook or clean up after!

The football party was so-so in terms of my eating.

I did get in a 4 1/2 mile run in the morning so I started my day out right.

We ended up at the party for over 5 hours which I didn't anticipate.

So the positive:
- I only had one beer and then switched to water for the rest of the night (that was very good).

- I did eat lots of carrots and celery (no dip)

- I did have one slice of pizza (actually 3 bite sizes pieces but I figure that it equalled one regular slice).

- I only had one very small brownie square (delicious and worth it).

Cons:

- sampled 2 wings and a small piece of sub (didn't plan nor need either)

- too many chips throughout the game

- sampled a bean dip - not enough beans, too much cream cheese

Compared to how I would have eaten at an event like this over the summer, I did great. For wanting to continue weight loss mode - not so good.

Plus, I went to bed feeling bloated and sick (not sure if it was from the water that I really pushed or too much greasy food). I'm up 3 pounds this morning which I'm sure is water retention but I still feel icky especially since Thanksgiving is coming up.

Plan from here on out: I was going to take today off from exercise but I'm going to do some nordic tracking while dh is lifting weights.

I'm going to eat super clean between now and Thanksgiving and get back to where I was before this party. That is going to involve not having wine with dinner while my dh and fil indulge (he arrives tomorrow) and not stress eating (which I do when I have company).

You got it. Things have been crazy here all week. Yesterday I volunteered at my dd's school and everyone was in OSU gear, they played the fight song before the morning announcements and the kids came off the bus chanting O-H-I-O : )

We have one lone Michigan fan in the neighborhood and the shenanigans that have been going on has been hysterical. There were crowds out this morning when I went for my run undoing opposing team propaganda or starting more ; )

Dinner was great! I enjoyed the entire experience and left feeling satisfied but not full.

Here are the actuals:
1 glass of wine instead of 1 1/2 as the last 2 oz tasting had turned and I passed on getting a substitution.

There were toasted bread points and crudities with wine infused cheese spreads brought to the table when we first arrived. I had the celery sticks without the cheese (didn't appeal to me).

I had the ahi tuna appetizer which was 2 oz of tuna, a spicy dressing on the side (I had less than 1/2 tsp as it was too spicy for me) with sprouts and carrots sliver. On the side I had grilled asparagus which I asked for no butter or oil and they were wonderful.

Dh got a cheese platter for dessert and I had a slice of onion bread and a bite of manchego. The cheese plate also had berries so I had three raspberries, 1 blueberry, a strawberry and a slice of apple along with 2 walnuts.

I finished the meal with a cranberry apple decaf tea (no sugar or milk) and it was wonderful.

I wasn't entirely on plan but frankly, I enjoyed it all and it was a great meal without going overboard. I don't think I did too much damage : )

Tomorrow is our football party. There will be no healthy options there. The hostess already told me it'll be wings, pizza and subs. I'm planning on a piece of sub without meat and cheese (if there are enough veggies on it) or if that doesn't work, 1 slice of pizza. I also plan a nursing one beer and then switching to water.

The focus will be on game watching and visiting with friends - not eating.
So, not entirely on plan

The afternoon wasn't quite as on plan as this morning but not too bad all things considering.

DH must have gotten into my granola as there was less than 1/3 c left. I ate that and a small apple (the big ones were gone too). Have to say that I wasn't too happy about that as he has plenty of his own high calorie granola to eat that I don't touch yet he felt compelled ot eat mine. (We'll be having a talk about that tonight ; ).

I did have a bite of dd's pizza crust from her dinner but turned down extras when she offered them to me. Then I had a healthy bite of a Halloween candy bar. DD end up not liking it and offered me the whole thing. I told her to toss it in the trash instead so that was a victory.

All things considered, I still feel like I'm in good shape for tonight's dinner and staying on plan.

So far so good. Breakfast and lunch were exactly on plan and I forced myself to go outside for a run. It was 38 degrees, windy and the sky was black but I still got in a 10K so I'm feeling good about that!

I'm going to hit the shower, do my nails and indulge in some self pampering in preparation for date night ; )

Brie:

Excellent plan of action!!! Way to go!

MaryJo:

I've fallen off my plan big time the last couple weeks. Yesterday was my first day back on the plan. Sometimes ya gotta just follow Nike's motto and "Just Do It". If you can't get out of the cycle of negative thinking, try writing down what your fear is and then writing down what the reality is/what you want it to be.

For example:
Fear:
I'm afraid I am going to gain more weight over the holidays.

Reality:
I can only control what is going on today. So today I choose to make good food choices and do ________ for exercise.

brie, you are my hero! wow! i could learn how to plan from you.

as for mary jo, hang tight! take baby steps, and don't be hard on yourself. it will pass. don't worry about the holidays, just put your fears into planning(brie is a wonderful teacher on planning!). Plan on what do to in those weak moments. once you are done figuring out your plan(in other words, refuse to live from fear and worry), relax and have fun. i put on 20 pounds also. i figure, those 20 pounds will still be there tomorrow. so i can hate those 20 pounds on me, or i can move on and take myself lightly. laughter burns lots of calories!!!! laugh so hard you have to run to the bathroom. find some fun/pleasure in every day. thanks for sharing your struggle, hang in there. isabel

Goals:
1. Stop thinking like a chronic dieter and start living to inspire.
2. HALT (hungry, anxious, lonely, tired) I will stop and tune in with myself should I experience these things, and respond with something healthy.
3. One word 2008: courage
4. Eat slow and mindfully.

Brie, great job! You are very disciplined and I admire that. I don't mean to change the subject of your post but I want to respond to MaryJo's reply to your post. Enjoy your dinner and your dh, sounds like a great night!!

Mary Jo,
I know exactly how you feel. I have gained some weight too, and every morning I say the same thing but for some reason I always end up going way off plan. It does bring you down and I know what you mean about the holidays coming. I am afraid that this will continue and I'll end up in a worse position then I was at the start. Sending you hugs and support.

Jill

Summer Challenge Goals:
1) Walk 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week
2) Plan weekly menus
