KD... is it too late to have a Cooking Thin DVD set released?
I really could have used a DVD or video of the episode that aired today, “Little Brother is Watching…” This episode would have been perfect for my dh to watch.
He has been in charge of making dinner this week and things have not gone well. We talked this morning about planning, etc. and I am confident that our food situation will resolve itself, but it would be so great to be able to show him that real food really can be made in 10-15 mins... but that it also takes a minimal amount of planning.
We have 8 pieces of electronic equipment which all "interface" with the TV set somehow. Each piece has 6-8 wires going into and out and connecting all the different pieces together. Yet, somehow, with all of this equipment and the 157 wires… we are not able to video tape a show… We can’t be alone. There must be others who are also electronically challenged in our high tech world and in need of a DVD set.
So… a DVD set of either Cooking Thin… or the next edition of your next show… would be wonderful. It would be super if you can have that put into your next contract negotiations ...
Thanks!!!
Denise

Catch Me If You Can (Feature for Alto Sax and Concert Band) by John Williams
This music is WAY different from Star Wars or Harry Potter.
From Pepper: Haunting and captivating describes John Williams' score to the hit movie "Catch Me If You Can" that starred Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks. The music features an alto sax soloist and a wide variety of unique percussion and scoring devices. This superb arrangement includes the most striking musical themes from the soundtrack in a marvelous concert setting.
Hal Leonard has an audio link on their website (it looks like a little speaker.)

Denise I got the website to load - what a BEAUTIFUL piece of music! I emailed our section leader about trying to get it to play this summer : ) Thanks for letting me know about it.
Out of our beliefs are born deeds; out of our deeds we form habits; out of our habits grows our character; and on our character we build our destiny.
"Hymn of the Highlands" by Philip Sparke - there is a sax solo about 15 bars into the 1st movement - she played it on a soprano sax - but probably is also in the alto part. The entire 2nd movement is a sax trio with the rest of the band band backing it up.

Ooooohhh! That sounds really good. I know that our section leader was hoping to find a piece to highlight the saxes for our summer concert series. I can't get the jwpepper website to load but I'll try it again later.
If you are interested in hearing the Overture to Colas you can hear it on:http://www.byu.edu/music/bands/gallery/audio_files.html Just scroll down to the Colas Breugnon

I also love Holst - I think this is about my 7th time playing the 2nd suite. Don't know Colas Breugnon
We also played several movements from "Pictures at an Exhibition" (most people have heard Great Gate of Kiev.)
We played something new (to me...) - "Hymn of the Highlands" by Philip Sparke - there is a sax solo about 15 bars into the 1st movement - she played it on a soprano sax - but probably is also in the alto part. The entire 2nd movement is a sax trio with the rest of the band band backing it up.
I thought it was a fun piece to play.
You can hear the entire piece (all 17 mins…) at www.jwpepper.com - just do a search with the title and composer - there is a real player file.

Denise, I have to say that your dh seems to be (really) trying. (The grey steak grosses me out a bit, though.) Seems like you are improving- I was suprised to hear that you are putting weight on the knee. Good to hear from you.
Denise At least your dh is trying ; ) Glad to hear that you have "real" food coming next week. Also glad to hear that you'll have a reprieve from being the sous chef at Easter : )

Oh my gosh!! Thank you all so much for the video offers!!!
dh basically has no dinner planning or cooking skills. We ate spaghetti on Mon and Tues… and then all planning went down hill and we had Taco Bell on Wed, Quizmos on Thurs, McDonalds on Fri...
Yesterday, dh wanted to make Philly Cheese Steak sandwiches for dinner. He bought some kind of steak that was about 1/2" thick and put it in a cold pan and turned on the heat. After it had cooked for about 20 mins, he dumped a jar of roasted red peppers in the pan and boiled the meat and peppers in the juice from the jar for another 10-15 mins.
He just served the meat and the peppers (no cheese or bread). He also served some canned corn and canned fruit cocktail. It was a very lean and sort of a healthy meal... and I was glad that it wasn't fast food.
The meat was a really unappetizing, gray color and VERY chewy and as dh pointed out... it did get me to eat slower. And we joked that it was a "well done" meal... which dh decided meant, "I done good". Although, he did ask "What did I do wrong?“, so he is sort of open to criticism.
Thank GOODNESS dinner co-op will deliver dinner next week.
We talked about using recipes this AM. He said, “But, that isn’t who I am.” But, I pointed out that it is very discouraging to spend 30 mins making something that only the dog enjoyed (and we did actually worry about the dog choking as the meat was soooo tough. ) DH doesn’t know some really basic things like the pan should be hot before the meat goes in.
I’m very lazy and didn’t always follow recipes. It took me a long time to figure out that many recipes say to dry the meat… and if you don’t skip this step, it browns so much nicer.
I’m going to take a shower and then we are going to the store. He picked out a 15 min chicken recipe that I’ve made before and everyone liked - although I pointed out that he has to read the recipe and then look through the fridge to see what ingredients need to be bought and make a list…

I think that I over did it on Wed, Thurs, Fri. I went to band practice/dress rehearsal on Wed. (I had some EXCELLENT solos… we played Holst’s 2nd Suite in F for any band people out there… and I play baritone horn and it is a great piece with long , important solos here there and everywhere… If I didn’t go… the trombone section would be divvying up my solos like the wild dogs they are… ) Then I taught a class on Thurs and then went and played the concert on Friday (nailed those solos - I should play every concert with a bag of ice on my leg.)
My knee ached yesterday and I was totally exhausted and kind of slept most of the day…
I really miss being able to turn over and bend my knee and roll over and go back to sleep at night… but other than that… things are improving. I can put a lot of weight on it… which the dr. encouraged me to do… I’ve been doing my exercises… the swelling is improving little by little… so things are going pretty well.
It could be much worse.

Entirely up to Food Network. I guess it doesn't hurt to keep bombarding them with email. My hands are tied BUT with our next show, we'll definitely do a DVD set!

This quote is the story of our electronic lives. LOL!!!
We can record a picture... but no sound... which leads me to believe that one of those cables or wires or things is unplugged or plugged into a wrong port... but who can tell... there is a rat's nest of wires back there!
Ahhhh! I sometimes miss the good old days with rabbit ears and 3 stations!

If I can figure out how to do it, I have today's episode on TiVO and can put it on video for you (If I can figure it out). Why don't you email me your address and I can get it out to you in the next couple of days. I have 3 episodes on TiVO...the two Newlywed Gain shows, and the Big Brother is Watching (today's) episode. I'm so sad that we didn't get the Tivo sooner! I missed Roberta's two episodes. I have them on my original videotapes that I was recording them on, but they aren't together and I like that they are playing them in order now so I can transfer them to video in order now
Anyhow, email me with your address and I'll get a tape out for you.
Blessings,
Lori
