I know sometimes our weight can seem like a battle we can win, but we can. This group is filled with those who have done, are trying to do and some just starting out. The more you post here, the more you'll notice what a wonderful support system we've built here.
Soda was on of the first things I cut back on, the second was salt. For everyone their baby steps are different.
Post any questions you have, we'll do our best to answer.

Mary Jane--please do NOT give up hope! Nearly every single person on this website is a living, breathing success story! Some of them have lost their weight and are now maintaining their loss, some of us have lost some weight but still have some more to go, and some are just getting started. YOU CAN DO THIS TOO!
Like Cobismom, my weight loss journey started not too long after turning 50. I turned 50 in October 2002 that was beginning of a light coming on in my brain that said "Not only do I don't want to be fat anymore, but I have a lot of serious illnesses in my family and I am not going to live a long, productive life if I keep going the way I am."
I've lost 25-30 pounds and I've brought my cholesterol down into the normal range for the first time in years and I'm a much healthier and fit person!
You can do this too! Keep reading the board and participating in the discussions. Ask us any questions you have. We will help!
Rest of Summer Goals: 1. Exercise-Cardio: Min. 2-3 walking or DVD cardio workouts per week. 2. Exercise-Weights/Toning: Min. 1 weight plus 1 toning workout per week. 3. Food: Get those veggie servings back up to where they were! 4. Behavior: Start reducing sweets now that the automatic after-meal response is better.

WElcome! I agree with taking babysteps! And one thing that hasn't been said yet is that just posting here is your first one! Everytime you log into this board, and post, that is another one. Leaving a truffle size bite of food behind on your plate tonight at dinner. do that every day for a week, then next week leave two truffle size bites on your plate....baby steps!
Blessings,
Lori

Hi Mary Jane! Happy Birthday day to you in October! The good news is you get to open presents every day until your birthday and beyond! The more you put into this, the more gifts you will receive
Read through the site. Read through all the posts. Yes, I said all. You'll laugh, you'll make new friends, you'll learn, you'll see someone who needs your help, you'll be inspired, you'll inspire others.
Participate in the homework, download the recipes, focus on taking baby steps and repeat. You can do this!
Start out with baby steps. I'll pretend that you drink sugar soda. Even something as simple as switching a glass of water for one can of soda a day works. At the end of the week, you say, "I drank 7 glasses of water and didn't drink 7 cans of soda and saved myself 1,764 calories! (that's half a pounds worth of calories - just with that simple switch!)"
Just do little things like that and you both lose weight and build your self esteem at the same time. Hang in there. Keeping posting.
There is definitely hope! You have found the right place for support, motivation, recipes and tips to eating well and reclaiming your health. Welcome to you!
Out of our beliefs are born deeds; out of our deeds we form habits; out of our habits grows our character; and on our character we build our destiny.
Mary Jane, I did the same thing, turned 50 and said, enough is enough. I want the second half of my life to be a healthy one. You've come to the right place and we are glad you are here. I've found the people here to be supportive and very excited about helping others. So stay awhile and talk often. Welcome.
Summer Challenge Goals:
1. Get out of the house and in the pool four days a week. 2. Schedule meals a week at a time. 3. five fruits and vegetables a day, along with water.
