Those of you who subscribe to Lean Plate Club emails (or read it in the Washington Post) and who read your emails on time are ahead of me on this. I'm way behind in catching up on my LPC mail. Anyhow, I was just reading a few issues and came across mention of some sort of new exercise/sport called Parkour, which is apparently a way to beef up your running and also prepare you for unexpected obstacles in your path.
The website gives step-by-step pictures and explanations of the various moves. I couldn't help but feel the whole time I was reading it that it was a goof--something somebody made up. It looks SO incredibly dangerous that I can't imagine someone (over the age of 25) wanting to risk the major injuries that could result from practicing this "sport." Granted, I see how useful practicing these moves could be should you one day encounter a life-threatening obstacle while running, but I can't quite see how risking the injury on a regular basis by practicing in order to get good enough at it that it would actually help you is worth it.
Curious to hear from some of the runners on the board.

Sheri: I couldn't make the connection to the site that you described....could you tell us a little bit about the "sport" that you are describing? If it can't be done by those over 25 --- I wonder about it's safety factors, too.
It's never too late to get it right.

That gave me a good laugh Sheri - My body doesn't even handle straight running all that well. I'm sure trying something like that would send me to an early grave.
Are you sure it isn't a spoof?
Out of our beliefs are born deeds; out of our deeds we form habits; out of our habits grows our character; and on our character we build our destiny.
Sheri, I've never heard of it and I doubt that I will be looking into it either!!! LOL!!!
I usually run here at home in our drive and pasture roads, walking tracks when on vacation or on our treadmill. The only thing I have to worry about at home are deer, cattle, snakes or other wildlife.....hmmmmmm....maybe I should look more into this....NOT!!! LOL!!!!!
