What do you all think of that. I find it hard to believe that the enormous weight loss the contestants post is from eating healthy, balanced diets. 28 pounds in ONE week???? I saw an interview where one of them talked about having to work out 4 and 5 hours a day. That is just not a reality for most people. I would like to see what the @#$%! they are all eating during the filming. Isn't the total filming only 3 months? I think KD should be teaching them how to eat. If you all agree, let's write them until they HAVE to listen. KD if you are out there, what do you think?

The women on the show had more reasonable losses than the men, except for a few big weeks. Think about the fact that this show is their full-time job when they are on it, and they have plenty of support and nothing to distract them. I think that it is a special situation.

That said, I have found the show very inspiring and am really going to miss it when it's over.

I agree that a kd cooking lesson would be a fun thing on the show -- maybe next season.

That's not to say that they SHOW much about this process or that they SHOW much about people learning about nutrition, but it has to be happening because you hear the contestants talking...
That's true...

Nope... well sort of... you know that the people are eating WAY less.

I sort of disagree. While I certainly agree that exercise and speedy weight loss are the focus of the show 95% of the time, I think they have done a much better job this season than last of preparing the contestants for eating in the real world. Teaching them how to order the best choices off of delivery menus, in restaurants, etc.

That's not to say that they SHOW much about this process or that they SHOW much about people learning about nutrition, but it has to be happening because you hear the contestants talking (sometimes you hear the trainer saying "I taught you this, now use it.") and they seem to know what is what in terms of fat, carbs, calories, etc. They're clearly being taught this stuff by the trainers...it's just that healthy eating isn't the exciting "what our sponsors pay for" stuff that they end up showing on the TV show 95% of the time.

Jillian Michaels is one of the two trainers on the show. I'm reading her book right now (plan to post a review when I finish) and she clearly has a handle on the science of weight loss when it comes to food and mental attitude as well as exercise. I actually have always preferred the other trainer (Bob Harper) but I'm gaining a lot of respect for Jillian after reading half or more of her book so far.

The sponsors are Diet Rite Cola and Jell-O and Cool Whip. Only "food" recipe I saw was something using Cool Whip and sf/ff choc pudding (blechk!).

Exercise IS really emphasized - over emphasized. But I know I lost most of my weight changing my food. Activity is important, but changing my food was more important.

These folk ain’t baby stepping… they are losing 100+ lbs in 3 months.

One plus, is that the show is on NBC... and you already know people there, KD. Smiler
