DS turns seven this weekend, and he's hosting a Lego party. I am charged with making a Lego birthday cake. My idea is to use a loaf pan to make a brick shaped cake and put cupcakes on top, then frost it all in a very bright color. (For the record, I did think of the cupcakes on top design all by myself, only to find that every birthday-party-idea Web site in the world includes this very thing.)
Anyway, I will have 12 boys to feed and I don't know if one loaf pan will make a big enough brick. I was figuring that a recipe that makes two 9" cakes would be plenty for one loaf pan and three cupcakes, but will it be enough for two loaf pans and six cupcakes? Or do you think I'm overdoing it and one small brick will do?
I'm pretty good at doubling and halving recipes, but the math involved in calculating volume is a little beyond my English major brain. Any thoughts?

Usually, banana bread made in a loaf pan makes 12-13 slices. I would think that a loaf plus 6 cup cakes plus ice cream would be more than enough for 12 boys (and a couple of parents...).

One 9" round cake pan holds about 4 cups (when filled to about 1/4" from the top). A loaf pan holds about 4.5 cups. A regular cup cake holds 1/2 cup.
My guess is that a recipe that makes two 9" round cakes... would make one 8.5" x 4.5" loaf plus about 6 cupcakes. I tend to overfill pans though... and go more like 3/4th of the way up rather than 2/3rds.
