Question:
My dh is needing to choose gift baskets for his direct reports at work. He was leaning towards getting them a basket of cookies and brownies from a local bakery company.
I just can't help but think of all those calories and fat grams and know that if someone sent one of those to me, I would have a really hard time with it.

There is a company that specialize in healthy gourmet baskets that I think would be a good option. Or he could do something totally unrelated to food like a gift certificate to the mall.

So, here's the question. What gift should he give?

Choices:
Give the cookies and brownies - heck, it's the holidays and people can start healthy eating after the New Year
Give the healthy food basket - people will appreciate having healthy, yummy food options
Forget the food - do something else like the gift certificate

As a thought for next year, how about a coffee and/or tea basket? I love trying new teas, and would think coffee drinkers would love to do the same.

Thanks for the feedback everybody. My dh loved the amazon.com gift certificate idea so he's going to go with that.

Thanks again!

Personally, I would lean away from the food gifts altogther, just because they probably get so many of those things already. I have always loved getting gift cards from dh's employers!

Brie,

Since the poll seems to be going against food how about tickets to a show - movie tickets even? Enough events come to Cleveland and Akron, there must be something that would entice.

Probably too late, now, but gift certificates for Amazon would allow people to pick out what they would like or need since they have expanded so much past books.

Had I been in on this earlier, I would have voted for the healthy food - I like the sound of it.

Exactly my thought. I see every day how much people where I work or people I know in other aspects of my life turn their noses up at healthy food options, saying "WHY would I want to eat that?"

Brie, I think it's a LOVELY thought, but I just don't think many people would appreciate it (unless, of course, your dh happens to work in one of those offices where everyone is already a healthy eater or something).

The healhty basket sounds great to me. It fits as yummy gourmet food that also happens to be healthy.

We did the pasta, sauce, cheese basket combo last year but good thought!

The healthy basket that I'm looking at has fruit, nuts, smoked salmon, sugar free candies, dark chocolate, healthy crackers, low fat cheese, etc...

I think that so many people turn their noses up at 'healthy' stuff that even if you had taste tested the stuff and knew it was good (which if you haven't taste tested, I'd try to do something like that) they might not even try it and then it's just a big waste of money. I'd do something non-food related. I always try to remember not to give something I'd like to receive so if that basket of 'goodies' doesn't fit the bill, find something else. The mall gift cert sounds good or what about those American Express Gift Check things?
