actually, it was quite beautiful yesterday.

It was REAL SNOW Big Grin, not that icy, sleety stuff we usually get. Will post photos as soon as I can (could not get the camera & computer to comunicate last night).

Dena and I got out and drove in it a little yesterday. We had an appointment to go see a couple of dogs she wants to adopt.

They are 8 year old brother & sister Lhasa Apsos. Rescued from the pound. They have been together since birth. Their owner turned them into the pound after his wife died and he found he could not care for them himself. The lady who rescued them wants them to stay together so I guess we are getting 2 dogs instead of one.

They are cute, friendly, well mannered, house broken and crate trained (& the price is right Wink) so I guess it is a done deal.

I remember the ice storm because my nephew was born during it Big Grin

I really hope there is not going to be an ice storm next week as I am going to be down there. I looked at the 10 day forecast and right now it says upper 60s.

I knew you were getting hit up there, Sheltieguy. I was thinking about sending a taunting e-mail to my cousin in Minneapolis.

Yesterday we broke the record high with 76º. Today it is just above freezing and the March winds are a-blowin'.

When ds left for classes, I warned him it was only 32º (about 11 a.m.) when he only had a fleece jacket on. He walked out to the end of the porch and came back in and said, "It's windy out there! Can you give me a ride?"

I did, but he still wore that jacket. He just came home from his walk home in that jacket.

Crud. My perfectly maintained doggie trails are now sheets of ice.

We had rain and snow, followed by below zero temperatures - MUCH colder than average. Today's high is going to be a whopping 10F, so I don't anticipate much melting. (grin)

We had about 6 inches of snow on Monday and by today it was 70 degrees. I have major spring fever! I hope it stays this way. I love having windows/doors open and just feeling the warm sun.

It's beautiful here today! The snow is about 75% gone and would be close to 100% if it weren't for the plow piles. But at least we can see grass again (Missy is happy about that, as all that white stuff was a little confusing for her when it came time to "go"). LOL

Forecast says more beautiful this weekend. Yay!

We have had more freeze-thaw-freeze cycles than usual. Today's puddle is tommorow's glare ice. The weather seems to have generated more pot holes in the roads than usual too.

It was supposed to be 50 degrees here today. It's 60 right now (almost 5:30 p.m.) It was a nice day. I had a short sleeve T-shirt on all day. You should get it within a couple of days, Sheri!

It was supposed to be 50 degrees here today and it sure didn't feel like it to me! We still have a LOT of snow on the ground because of the plows.

Sooooo, remnants of Sunday's snow have been on the ground for 3 days as of yesterday.
According to old timey wisdom that I have heard all my life, "if snow lays on the ground 3 days it will do it again before it is all gone". I have known this to come true many times in the past but it is supposed to be 70+ this weekend. We have however been known to have ice storms that shut down the town as late as the last week in March. My nephew was born during one.

Cathy (the vet-tech/groomer who rescued them) and her husband were saying that most of that breed are not overly friendly but these two are. They were playing and cuddling with us almost as soon as we got there and before we left, 4 or 5 other dogs of various breeds (she has a couple dozen Wink) also came in and they all "played" together very well.

Shetland Sheepdogs are beautiful but a bit more dog than we need Smiler.

Speaking of dog breeds, here is the web site of the American Shetland Sheepdog Association.

http://www.assa.org/

Among other things, they are very smart, very eager to please, (very easy to train) and require gentle treatment and training.

I know, I shouldn't have, but I couldn't resist putting in a plug for my Precious Furry.Smiler

I'm sure every dog has it's own unique personality and that there are probably plenty of friend llahas out there. Just in general, they have the reputation for not being great family dogs.

Interesting that you say that...Missy and I were down on the boardwalk a few weeks ago on an unseasonably spring-like day and there were LOADS of other dogs there. We saw a Llasa with her Mom & Dad and I asked if Missy could approach. They said no, because the dog isn't very friendly to strangers.

Shih Tzus were bred from Llasas and yet Missy is the friendliest dog you would ever meet. She was afraid of other dogs when I first adopted her, but I have socialized her as much as I can since I've had her and now she has lost most of her fear of dogs. She was never dog aggressive, just fearful. She has never met a person, male or female, that she didn't like.

Gorgeous here too. Can't say we didn't get the sleety/icy stuff, cuz we did. It rained all day yesterday so when the rain started to transition, we had a few hours of sleet.

I just posted a short video taken from my window on Flickr. Didn't want to take the camera outside until it stops snowing because it is blowing so hard and the snow is blowing sideways.

A word of caution about lhasas....in general, they are very protective dogs. Originally bred to protect the Dali Lamas. They are not family dogs and will bond with only one person. I wonderif the man who turned them in had difficulty because they were bonded to the wife.

Dh's family lhasa bonded with his mom only. He actually attacked other members of the family. He especially didn't like men.
