The latest L.L. Bean catalog tells me that it's Spring, but the very thick layer of dense snow in my back yard says otherwise.
I had a hard time buying some new winter boots from local retailers, due to stock-out problems. I guess if you want to buy winter footwear, you are supposed to do it in the fall.

Yikes! Didn't you freeze, from the lack of heat?
A neighbor on the other side of the development took in a few folks for the night as they had a generator and several fireplaces, so thankfully I never had to see how cold it would get. It was in the mid-50s in my place when I left just after dark on Saturday.

Sheltie, my poor dog is in the same boat, and we did the same thing in creating trails. By the time this next storm moves on tomorrow, the snow will be twice as tall as my poor dog.

(When I think of long winter power outages, the first thing that comes to mind is frozen pipes.)
My biggest late-winter fear is ice dams, which causes perfectly good roofs to leak when snow melts. The usual remedy is to snow rake the edges of the roof. Due to a couple freak winter rain storms, the snow on the roof is as hard as a rock and can't be removed.
I can't remember the last time that we had this much snow cover. I snow blow a doggie potty trail system in the back yard, and the snow is now deeper than the top of his head.

Hope you are all well, safe and warm.

This year I bought UGG boots for the first time. Yes, I know they are "so 2003" but I love how warm and comfortable they are. I bought black- I prefer the look to the tan color. They may not be so stylish, but boy- are they comfortable and warm and dry.
I'm in the same cabin fever boat. In three weeks, I've gotten 2 runs outside, one yesterday, one two Saturdays ago. For somebody who runs outdoors almost all year long, three weeks of gym runs (okay two if you count the fact I was sick much of last week) has me going crazy.
I've got a little over a foot here, so I'll have to figure out something once I get some meds for the bronchitis I'm currently fighting. I really, really hate snow. I can live with the cold, but man, the snow is really annoying.

Back in November when we had our first real snowfall I had trouble finding snow boots. I did finally buy a pair but not exactly what I wanted. Tonight I am writing this as we are under the influence of a major winter storm. Most likely over a foot of snow. It is now that I wish I had snowshoes! I never rented or bought them because we have had such mild winters lately. I really want them now!

I used to think ice cleats were so uncool. Now I love mine. We've been getting so much snow the whole city is incapacitated. There's nowhere to put it. Snow dumps are full. The municipal authorities are asking everyone to pitch in and shovel so at least emergency vehicles can do their job. Meanwhile, public transport is a joke.

Sheri, looks like you are in the 2 feet of snow area?
Yes. 18-22 inches of snow in the next 24 hours is the CONSERVATIVE estimate! And we still have snow on the ground from last weekend's storm!
This is SOOOOOO out of normal for Rehoboth. I talked to a guy in the grocery store this morning who has lived here a long time and he said this many snows in one winter is unheard of, much less for it to be this MUCH snow.
I have food for me and the dog, so I'm set. It just sucks because we were homebound all LAST weekend and I didn't get to read to the kids this week cuz school was closed...so I'm a little cagey already and now I have to do it all over again. Grumble grumble

I've gotten some wear out of my ice cleats too, since a typical scenario here is snow or rain that freezes during the night so that everything is ice when I walk the dog the next morning.
Last winter (my first with the dog), I did a lot of slippin' and slidin', and when you have a dog attached to you, it's harder to get good solid footing with each step you take on ice.
Denise (Goingskiing) pointed me to some ice cleats that go over the boot on QVC so I got those. Inexpensive but work great.

sheri, i think we are experiencing the same storm front. the kids have been out of school for TOO long, and then they had delayed opening. i just finally made it to my mailbox, and for the first time, have been able to park my car in my own driveway.
it was beautiful while it was out there, but i was getting cabin fever.
