I ran my last half of the year on Saturday. This is my favorite race of the year, but it's also great because it's almost literally in my back yard.
The short version of the story is that I've been sick for three weeks, and after being up last night for way too long because I couldn't stop coughing I gave up and went to the doctor.
It turns out that I ran my half with bronchitis. And managed to break my May half time by 9 minutes, which also means I took 16 minutes off of last year's time. And broke my personal goal of running a half in less than 2 hours and 30 minutes (by 1 1/2 min.).
Maybe not breathing well is helpful. (But next year I'll hopefully run it healthy.)
Life is like a roller coaster, with lots of ups and downs, but the curves, spirals, loops and corkscrews are what make life interesting.
Congrats, Laura, on and meeting and exceeding your personal goal!
I have a lifetime history of bronchitis (had it the first time at age 6 months), so I know that it is no small feat to do anything requiring physical endurance when you have it. I'm usually reclining on the sofa or in bed, coughing up a lung.
