Need help: Best way to prep and store salad for the week?

Hi! I need to prep salad stuff early in the week to be able to quickly throw a salad together. What I have been doing is prep and wash my lettuce, store in a large ziplock with a paper towel to absorb excess moisture. That works very well. Then I chop all my other veggies like carrots, cukes, peppers, celery, etc. and store them together in another bag. I find that the chopped veggies don't seem to last as long though and start to get funky. Does anyone have any tips for better storage of chopped veggies? Thanks!

I just heard a great tip on Healthy Decadence (show on FitTV).
Get rid of the seeds in your cucumbers and tomatoes. They make your salad soggy.

Thanks everyone! Love the pickle idea. I will try storing everything seperately and see if that helps. Thanks again.

When DD gets on a salad kick she chops everything and puts them in seperate bags. Then she just grabs a little of this and a little of that to make a salad in the mornings.

Love this idea. Thanks. I always forget how much I enjoy quick pickles in a salad.

Sometimes when I cut up carrots and celery, I put them in a ziplock with a few ice cubes. That seems to give them a bit of moisture and helps them retain their crunch.

I would probably wait until the last minute to cut up the cukes. Another option might be to make a quick pickle with them. Add some lightly flavored vinegar, like rice wine or cider vinegar, a bit of sugar and some dried dill. Add sliced cukes. It lasts for several days in the fridge, and depending on your dressing, could go quite nicely in a salad.

I store veggies like cukes, peppers in separate containers too.

I'd store your veggies separately. In my experiences, cukes tend to go south sooner than many veggies and they get slimy so they'd have an impact on all the other veggies if stored together in a bag.

I store my prepped veggies in Ziploc lidded plastic containers.

Have you tried Tupperware or other lidded plastic containers? Or maybe you need to keep them in separate bags/containers. Also, when I cut up apples or pears for DS's lunch, putting them in some cold water in a tightly sealed container keeps them from turning brown -- at least until lunch time.
