i will be 40 one week from today! yahoo! i was thinking of milestones and what i want to take into my next decade:

1. i want to care even less of what others think of me. i want to be more strongly rooted in my intuition and gut instincts.
2. i want to have more fun.
3. i want to be more loving to the key people in my life.
4. i want to eat more like a thin person.

have you done this type of thing before, i.e. set a "tone " for the coming year, decade, whatever? please share.

Goals:
1. Stop thinking like a chronic dieter and start living to inspire.
2. HALT (hungry, anxious, lonely, tired) I will stop and tune in with myself should I experience these things, and respond with something healthy.
3. One word 2008: courage
4. Eat slow and mindfully.

I have 2 1/2 years before I hit the 40 milestone but I have to say that I have no angst about it.
I think the one good thing in the media these days is all the press about how wonderful the 40s and 50s are.
You don't hear much anymore about "mid life crises" and stuff that I remember when I was a kid.

Anyway, happy early b-day Isabel! I bet the best is yet to come : )

Another BIG happy birthday. That's exactly what I did when I turned 50 --- and my goals or what I wanted to do looked a lot like yours. I wanted to be healthier than I have ever been, I wanted to be my own woman, I wanted to give more than I have ever received, and to find something that did make me truly happy. WOW! I am half way through my 50's and I am doing well. So good luck on your 40's, they were a blast for me!

No more elephants in the living room or kitchen. I will be true to me.

I will swim starting Jan 2 --- I deserve to feel 150%!

Isabel,
I turned 40 in September. I must admit that I had some fear about it. I can't say ANYTHING negative about it. I feel way more clear and present and "adult" in so ways.
In general, turning 40 has helped me to take more ownership of myslef and to be way less passive.

Go, girl!

thanks y'all!

i am actually looking forward to the big four zero. this has been such a transition year for me--separation from dh, all the issues with dd, 2 apartments, starting a new career, trying to get comfortable living in this gray transition period (which is hard for a recovering type A like myself). 2008 will be more pioneering new territory but i feel ready and strong.

Welcome to the Fabulous Forties, Izzy!

I remember being bummed, but then I thought, Heck, it's just numbers.

Any time is a good time to set a new tone. Go girl!

Happy Birthday, Isabel! When I was in my 20s, I thought of turning 40 as a horrible thing, and even when I turned 40, I was fairly bummed about it. But now, looking back, I can see that my 40s is when I really came into myself--stopped worrying so much about what others wanted or thought and cared more about what *I* wanted and thought.

I hope that your 40s will be a wonderful time for you!

Goals for March:
1. Get some art up on the walls.
2. Do at least 1 day of intentional exercise a week (to start).
