i am still trying to plan out what do to on christmas day. I assume the theater is usually open on christmas (?) what else do you guys think will be open on christmas?

Goals:
1. Stop thinking like a chronic dieter and start living to inspire.
2. HALT (hungry, anxious, lonely, tired) I will stop and tune in with myself should I experience these things, and respond with something healthy.
3. One word 2008: courage
4. Eat slow and mindfully.

I know that theatres are open on Thanksgiving in my area because the family I used to spend Thanksgiving dinner with would go to the movies every year after dinner. I am pretty sure that my friends and I went to see "Rent" on Christmas Day last year in Rehoboth, but can't remember for sure.

Rest of Summer Goals:
1. Exercise-Cardio: Min. 2-3 walking or DVD cardio workouts per week.
2. Exercise-Weights/Toning: Min. 1 weight plus 1 toning workout per week.
3. Food: Get those veggie servings back up to where they were!
4. Behavior: Start reducing sweets now that the automatic after-meal response is better.

From my experience in Salt Lake City one Christmas:

1. Denny's

2. Vietnamese restaurant

3. Jewish-owned drug store (biggest sellers are batteries and film!)

Now, where I live, I can probably find a K-Mart, a Wal-Mart, the 99¢ Only store, and a couple of supermarkets open at least part of the day on Christmas. It would also be a good day to get a roll of quarters and take all the big comforters and stuff that won't fit into a home washing machine down to the local lavadora

In years when my parents did not want to or could not cook (they were moving over the holidays one year), we ate our Christmas dinner at hotels. Many of them have VERY nice buffets for very reasonable prices.

Is there any place that has notable indoor Christmas decorations? Some of the hotels here, especially the older ones, have amazing decoration displays. One in Orlando brings in huge blocks of ice and chills the whole place for a display filled with lights, ice sculptures, and snow.

And the year we spent Christmas in Vegas...everything was open Smiler

I went looking at a few articles, and hit on these ideas, too:
Ice skating rinks NOT in malls
Community band performances
Theme parks
Recreational parks for hiking

Here's list of things in NYC that are open, which might make you think of similar things in your area.

Challenge Goals:
*10 minutes of unplanned exercise five times a week
*Gym time twice a week
*Socialize at least once every two weeks.

Isabel, movie theaters are open. We go almost every year to a movie in the evening. When DS was younger, my parents would watch him. Now we usually try to find a movie we can all enjoy.

Last year we went to see "Night in the Museum". This year will probably be "The Golden Compass".

In past years we've lost the whole day visiting family. This year it'll be a long run (weather permitting) and a short family visit.

I usually don't want to be out and about on Christmas, but usually you can find an occasional chinese or indian restaurant (or Denny's Wink) open and the theater usually is. Otherwise, I can't think of any other options unless you're in a heavy tourist area like Orlando or CA.

Life is like a roller coaster, with lots of ups and downs, but the curves, spirals, loops and corkscrews are what make life interesting.
