For months now, every single time the commercial warning of the digital transition is on tv my mother asks me what we have to do about it. Do you know how many times a day that commercial runs? She never remembers from one time to the next that she has seen it before or that she has already asked me about it.
I keep telling her that we don't have to worry about it because we use cable, not just an antenna.
NOW, I hear on the news that Comcast (my cable company) may NOT be ready! 24 hours before the change I find this out Mad!!

I didn't watch TV all day as we had our community yard sale and I was exhausted after that. Tonight, everything seems to be fine. After reading Sheltie's post, I just turned on my TV here in the office whichh does not have a cable box but IS hooked in to cable directly from the wall...it seems to be fine. Still have Food Network, HGTV, Animal Planet, etc. which are all above channel 40 here.

September Challenge Starting Goals:

1. Change after-lunch cookie or Dove Promise to fruit at least 3 days per week.

2. Get back to having dinner (which for me is a light meal or snack, not a full meal) by 6-6:30 p.m.

3. When having after-dinner dessert, have it by 8 p.m. then nothing but water after 8 p.m.

Things went well here:

In spite of the fact that we don't have any cable boxes, Comcast delivered all local channels.

The Antenna-DTV channel that I was having reception problems with significantly boosted it's signal, so now all channels come in perfectly.

One ancient TV wouldn't work with a DTV converter box, but we had another smaller TV around that we used instead.

Went by the local Comcast office while I was out this morning paying bills and walking dogs (didn't have time for the Y) and she said they are in the process of making some changes but it has nothing to do with the federally mandated digital transition.

Our local stations switched to all digital at 12:30 (live coverage of the switch being flipped on the news) and nothing happened to our tv's.

The lady at Comcast said that when they make their changes our tv's will not change because we already have a converter box (necessary to get the 3 digit channels like Planet Green & FitTV). People whose cable plugs directly into their tv (dd's set up) will have to get a converter box (the first 2 are free) in order to get any station over #27. Dd only has 2 tv's so I guess she will be ok also.

Judy,

And I thought I"D be happy when those commercials and crawls disappear.

No TV does leave more time for reading - just trying to turn the situation into lemonade.

If there's anything you absolutely need/want to watch I can record it for you. Provided, of course, that I get that channel.

My local NBC affiliate made the transition just before the noon news. No problems. In fact, my picture looks better than ever. I surfed through some of the other channels to check. The Dayton local PBS station still looks lousy, but, I don't know when they are scheduled to change.

Here, Comcast has repeatedly said that cable customers don't have to do anything, but I am not so sure in our case.

We don't have a cable box, and I think all local channels are spliced into the cable from the outdoor antenna.

Oh well, time will tell if our local channels do/don't disappear.

*******

We have a DTV/antenna converter box hooked up to one set. It generally works great, and gives us extra channels, but the signal for one major channel is weak.

When a digital signal is weak, there are no shadows or static. Instead, the video "blocks out", and the audio goes off/on, off/on, off/on. It makes things completely unwatchable.
