So...my class is studying ancient Egypt. I volunteered to bring food for 20 kids-
I read somewhere that ancient Egyptians ate many, many dates. (This did cause health problems like Diabetes.)
Anyway, I dug up kd's recipe for date bars, whipped them up and will bring them to school tomorrow. I was reminded how easy her recipes are to prepare. While these are not at all low calorie or low in sat. fat, they are super yummy and way more healhty than some of the other stuff the kids will eat throughout the day.
They are cooing now--- my house smells like yummy, sweet, buttery bakes goods. Thanks,kd.

I am not a big fan of dates, but dh and dd LOVE them. One of the boys at school said that they were the best Fig Newtons he ever ate!
BTW, I cut back on the sugar pretty significantly. I eliminated the sugar in the date/water mixture and took about 1/4 of the sugar out of the crust. (I substituted oats for the sugar I ommitted.)
