Peg: I just searched the site on "guided meditation" cuz I could have sworn that you had posted about a CD you liked. Or maybe it was that website you shared with us that I'm thinking of (it featured a brief guided meditation).

I'm wanting to buy myself a guided meditation CD as my week 5 reward (better late than never!) and wanted to find your recommendation (if you had one) before I bought one.

Am I imagining things? Did you find one you like?

P.S. Edited to add that I found this one on amazon, but the only customer comment was 1 star because the audio quality is bad (the music overwhelms the narration). Anyone familiar with this company (Meditations for Life)?

P.P.S. This one had samples on amazon that you could listen to. Loved the guy's voice but didn't think much of what little content I heard (all cuts were repetitive "Breath in relaxation and peace.").

For those of you mommies (and others) out there who tend to feel overextended, and esp. those of you who have a difficult time making time for your own self-care, I think that the particular affirmations on this CD would be VERY beneficial for you. There aren't any of the affirmations that I don't like, though I find some more applicable to my life than others.

I purchased the Stress Management one a few weeks ago and have used it a couple of times. Haven't gotten through all of the sections (it has 2 cd's and 4 different sections) but like it all so far too. You can find it on the site I posted for Sheri down this thread.
There are ones for weight loss, better sleep, all sorts of stuff.

Hmm...interesting. All three times that I have used the meditation CD so far at bedtime, I have awakened before the alarm the next morning. Sometimes only 2-5 minutes before...this morning, it was 20 minutes or so before. While I will sometimes awake before the alarm because my bladder is saying "HEY!", it's not often that I am awake before the alarm, so this is unusual for me. I don't know if the meditation has anything to do with the waking early or is just a total coincidence, but I thought I'd report it.

For those of you mommies (and others) out there who tend to feel overextended, and esp. those of you who have a difficult time making time for your own self-care, I think that the particular affirmations on this CD would be VERY beneficial for you. This woman's voice is very soothing and the music is also very nice.

Sheri... that was such a moving story about your experience... I've had several friends and one uncle die of AIDS also (since I've lived in a drug program...) I can totally picture your experience. It was YOUR meditation experience and very powerful... but that just isn't the right place to share it.

Sometimes I end up crying for multiple reasons... my friends, myself, my family...

Oh Denise, that is sorta freaky! The only time I ever did guided meditation with a group was many years ago at an AIDS patient support meeting that I went to with one of my friends who had AIDS. The voice was telling us to go to a safe, beautiful place and I went to this beautiful meadow with a path that led to a lake. Not someplace I'd ever been. It's just an image that sprang to my mind. I was running through the meadow...the sun was shining and I was sort of golden...and I was thin. When I "came back," I was crying. The group leader saw me crying and wanted me to tell the group what had impacted me so deeply. Here I was in a roomful of sick people battling a then-fatal disease--people who would likely be dead in a year--how could I sit there and talk about how painful it was to be fat? I felt really guilty about it, but yet it was THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THING and I couldn't feel bad about it.

Smiler I would just like to suggest that you be careful about what you allow into your mind and spirit, especially when you are most vulnerable asleep at night. When you are sleeping and your subconcious is listening, you have no control over what you choose to believe or not believe, like hypnosis. It can be dangerous!!

Oh wow!!!! That would sort of creep me out, too.

Our old minister used to do guided meditations...
but I didn't do it well...

"You are in a meadow. The sun is shining and warm - Now lets walk down a path to a lake.."

and I'd think... Noooooo! I'm happy here in the meadow! I don't want to go to the lake Frowner!

I listened to tracks 2 and 3 last night at bedtime. This time I stayed awake for all or most of it. Turns out, the part of track 2 (the actual guided meditation part) that I didn't hear the other night because I fell asleep has a lot to do with spirits and such...stuff that creeps me out. SO it actually kept me awake instead of relaxing me this time. I think after several listens, I'll be able to just focus on her voice and stop thinking about dead people standing around my bed wishing me well. I heard most of the affirmations this time (track 3) which I also slept through the first time, and those are quite good...some body image stuff in there that I found quite helpful.

My amazon shipment was on my doorstep when I got home yesterday from gym and errands. Yay! I put the Belleruth Naparstek meditation CD in my CD player/clock radio when I went to bed. I listened to the introduction and made it through I think the first a part of the second of three segments before I fell asleep. The third segment is affirmations so I'll have to go back and listen to them again to see what affirmations were being beamed into my brain while I was sleeping! LOL

Now I see why she recommends NOT listening to this in the car! hehe

I have used the Bellruth Naprasek one, and it's nice. Great for the car, unless it's late at night and you're tired! You wouldn't want to get that relaxed at that point!

Thanks for reminding me of that website. I had saved it to Favorites but forgot that I did. I just ordered "A Meditation for Relaxation and Wellness" by Belleruth Naparstek from amazon (one that I'd found on healthjourneys.com).

I'll let you know what I think after I've tried it.

Here's the site I posted before: http://www.healthjourneys.com/

I just got my first one too...stress reduction...I like it. I've used it twice so far. I don't have a lot to compare it to but I really liked their huge selection, I thought they had good 'sets' of cd's for a discount and my counselor highly recommended them. The one I have is very much like that excerpt I posted about that day.

I had looked around another time and really felt at a loss as to what to buy because reviews seemed soooo mixed and I just jumped on this recommendation from my counselor because I had been unable to choose before.

Sheri,
Not sure if this is helpful, but our Barnes and Noble has some available for listening. (This is not the most relaxed atmosphere, but you could still get a sense of the CD.)
I am also interested in one. I have found meditation very helpful and thing that I could use some mental and emotional tweaking in this area.
