...i got attacked by a dog today as i headed home from my long run. i'm fine, other than some swelling in my knee and wrist, which had to be splinted. it hurts like mad, my knee much less so. i'm really hoping this doesn't screw up my half training... (see i have my priorities in the right order...). i have to take dh to school tomorrow because my writing and typing hand is not real useable right now.
the police came and i'm pressing charges only to recoop the er & medication costs, but i'm not the first person that the dog bit, so i suspect it may be put down. i'll be lurking occasionally, but i'll keep you posted.

IF the dog owner has homeowners insurance, would they pay for your med? Just a thought.
From the little I know, that could be a possibility, but I believe that has to come from a civil suit. We're not that far yet. I'm still stuck in waiting to find out what happened yesterday in court, then wait for the prosecutor's office to call me. (That's another adventurous tale for another day. )
ETA: They are holding the trial May 27. I don't know anything else.

I found out this AM that the dog's owner is due in court today for 2 misdemeanors, dog bite and failure to control. If he pleads guilty, it's entirely likely that probation/restitution department of the criminal court will make him cover all of the medical bills & stuff, and then I don't have to follow through with the prosecutor's office.
I've graduated to an ace bandage on the wrist and the knee is slowly improving, though it's all kinds of fun colors right now.
I've kept up my half training and am headed out for a long run this afternoon, and it should be interesting to see how that goes.

I decided to not let Thursday get to me, so I took myself out for my last training run for the week, even if it was step, owww for the entire run. I did my scheduled 5 miler (plus .4 extra) and only freaked out once, when a border collie scared the bejeebers out of me. I just didn't want to spend the next four days (until my next scheduled run) getting more and more afraid to go out again. I figure being skittish will also wear off eventually.
Hopefully I can ditch the wrist splint Monday or Tuesday, and I can at least type again (although I still write like a kindergartener). But it felt really good to get out and run.

Thanks, all. Linda, thanks for the offer. I think I'm good for now. DH is home and has been really helpful, even cooking for all the meals. (He even made me a new loaf of rye bread so that I can keep it in the fridge, as well as balled up the one I want to bake.)
I will talk to the dog warden tomorrow, but the owner got cited, and I'm guessing from the little bit of info that I have that they didn't put the dog down. I'm going to ask if it's been restricted to the owner's property, though.
My fingers are moving more freely today, so I'm guessing I'm on the mend. (If the dr. was right, I should be over the worst of all of this by Monday or Tuesday.) I'm still mostly typing one handed, though. My profs have been more than helpful and okay with extending all my deadlines for next week. Writing is still a challenge with this splint and having to be careful to not jar the wrist even with the splint.
And I am still going to try and get out for at least a shorter run tomorrow, as long as the puncture wounds around my knee are starting scab over. And before everybody says anything, I fully intend to go out with pepper spray in the good hand.
