Just looking for some experience and information. My Doc's nurse called yesterday and said there were a few abnormal cells in my pap test. I am returning on Tuesday for a check for HPV virus. We'll go from there. My test was normal about 14-16 months ago.
I'm a bit worried, but also staying pretty rational as this could mean many things and the abnormality is not advanced---
My sister had an abnormal Pap test a few years ago. She had another, and some additional testing done and all came back fine. I've heard from several friends that they have had abnormal tests the first time, and then the second time it came back normal. I wouldn't worry too much. Even those friends who have had multiple abnormal tests have had minor procedures to correct whatever was wrong. Thinking and sending positive thoughts and prayers to you.

Sandy - my thoughts are eith you....I had an abnormal pap for my VERY first pap - it was very scary but with the way things are today ~ I'm sure things will work out ....... good luck to you
Sandy, I'll be thinking of you. My experience is that many things can trigger an abnormal result. From as little as taking a shower that morning or before you go, to anything more serious. Normally, it's just a precaution to take another sample an try again. They may have you come back every 6 months for a year --- but we'll be thinking positive things for you.
Take the opportunity to change one thing about yourself once a day be it large or small. Trying doesn't get anything done.

Hi Sandy, Thinking of you and passing on my experience that I had a few in a row and they have cleared themselves up. The tests are set to a very sensitive level and it doesn't take much to trigger an abnormal result. You might want to ask your doctor about taking folate supplements. That was one of the things my doc had me do. It is supposed to help with inflammation that could be causing the abnormal result. No fun but nothing to be too upset about at this point

10-15 years ago, my GYN's office called saying my pap showed something. Later, my GYN told me that some cells folded over look the same as whatever they thought I had, and it can be difficult to tell one from the other. All paps since have been clear so I'm assuming that it was a false alarm.
Goals for March: 1. Get some art up on the walls. 2. Do at least 1 day of intentional exercise a week (to start).

i can't figure out how to reply not on the list---but i did have an irregular one 20 years ago- had the 'freezing' (chyro) and have had a regular pap since then.
I had abnormal results 10 years ago that meant nothing. And a friend recently had abnormal results, and on second test, there was nothing. It was a misread.
From what I learned over the past two years, abnormal results are most often nothing or very minor and easily fixable. I'll keep you in my thoughts, because I know your worries and concerns (and because NO ONE wants to climb on that table more often than once a year...).
