I just caught up on the last 2 episodes of his show today and all I can say is WOW!!! Not to be on a soap box, but he is totally heading in the right direction with this WV town.

I would love to hear anyone's thoughts.

I saw parts of the first two episodes. I think it is a wonderful concept for a show and I like that he is educating these people about health and nutrition but I have to agree with Sheri that I find his interaction a bit condescending too. I also agree that it is probably a bit of a cultural difference.

It also felt like he was trying to put some "Biggest Loser" moments in his show. He was using some "ugly" language that I don't think was appropriate considering much of the show revolves around children. I didn't really think his English Pea costume was quite as funny as he thought it was going to be.

This is his show and a project that he wanted to produce so I wasn't fully buying his tearful speech about how he was having to be away from his family while he was helping those people. Again, I felt he was trying to bring a "Biggest Loser" feel to his show...drama...tears and so on.

I like Jamie Oliver and I wish the best for the show. It is a wonderful idea for a show.

Yes, in fact I meant to post about this here and forgot, so thanks for posting.

I watched the "sneak preview" a week or so ago and then caught part of the new episode on Friday night (I'd been out at the movies). I have it recorded on DVR, though, so when I get time, I can go back and watch the whole thing.

I agree that he is heading in the right direction. He is educating the school personnel AND the parents AND the children about healthy eating and about what is contained in their school meals and that is a fantastic thing. He is helping that one family learn how to cook/eat better to avoid the young boy becoming diabetic. These are all admirable goals.

However, I find his interaction with the "lunch ladies" to be patronizing and condescending. Maybe this is just a cultural thing, him being from England. Maybe he doesn't mean to be offensive, but I find it offensive that he constantly says "Hey girls!" when he's talking to them (esp. when they are older).

He SAYS (to the camera) that he respects them for their hard work, but his direct interactions with them show anything BUT respect. That is NOT the way to win over people who don't want you there in the first place. This is their JOB and they take pride in it...and you are coming in and shyte-ing all over it. Not good.
